A cute relaxed interior with face brick walls, wooden floors and furniture, softened with plants dotted around the cafe. It's an intimate space with one long communal table and a bunch of smaller ones for couples and smaller groups. It might be a bit tight if you were trying to bring in a couple of prams.
The staff are warm and welcoming and quick to make sure our caffeine requirements are met. The menu is a solid selection of brunch faves, a few specials and a great range of coffees and alternatives. Plus there's a cabinet of delicious looking pre-made delicacies.
what we had...
Chilli Prawn Scrambled Eggs - with crisp chilli, prawn, grilled broccolini, green salad on soudough A generous serve of creamy folded eggs with lots of juicy prawns. The greens were a lovely accompaniment to balance out the richness of the dish and the chilli gave a nice pop of heat but wasn't overpowering.
Build your own brekkie - Potato hash, smashed avo, CRISPY bacon & shrooms I loved being able to build my own brekkie from scratch and choose all my fave things to pile on top of a thick, fluffy hash. The bacon was cooked super crispy, just as I'd ordered it, and the avo had smashed up almonds which I thought was a nice touch.
Red Velvet Hotcake - with chocolate mousse, fairy floss, fresh berries, dark chocolate sauce and raspberry ice cream we were treated to the Easter version which included two blobs of icecream and was topped with a Cadbury Cream egg :)
final thoughts... Prospect is a great cafe for a reliably satisfying feed with a good variety of options and something for everyone. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming and the staff are always super sweet and helpful. We love their coffee and their home made...
Read moreSecond time here and very disappointed. Upon arrival we were told a minute wait, 10 minutes tops but ended up waiting 30 minutes for a table (Which is completely fine if we were made aware of the wait) . Had to continuously ask the waiter to take our names down, but with a lot of resistance from them for some weird reason. If they took our name and number from the get go, we could have gone to the shops nearby instead of wait in the cold for so long.
After we were seated, it took us another HOUR to get all our food. Luckily we enjoy each others company.
One of the dishes came out half finished, with another 20 minutes until the entire dish arrived on a separate plate. Chips had no flavor at all, burger was assembled badly, everything slid out of the bun, chicken flew to the floor and there goes the entire meal. (maybe slightly nit picky but with the amount of great burger joints in Melbourne along with the hour long wait, we were hangry and not impressed, asked the waiter for another piece of chicken and he flat out said no, not even an offer with an extra charge on top)
Chai latte had no flavor, Vietnamese ice coffee was not very Vietnamese, soy latte was mostly soy milk. Ice coffee was great. Salmon croquettes were tasty but very heavy in flavor and felt sick afterwards.
Apparently it was the first day with a new head chef as the previous one walked out before new years. All in all a huge disappointment and would only go back if we were desperate for brunch and no where else to...

This small cafe is near the heart of Camberwell junction and boasts an interesting menu of savoury and sweet dishes, as well as eggs how you like them. It is an innovative and new menu put together by a young chef from Paris.
The Bircher muesli is soaked overnight with soya and coconut milk. For the sweet tooth, try the red velvet hotcake; coated with roasted coconut flakes, fresh berries, chocolate mouse and raspberry ice cream.
I had the more healthy Grain Garden Salad today. The bowl was lined with homemade beetroot and chick pea hummus, with perfectly char grilled asparagus and broccoli and a lovely miso dressing. Filling and healthy. Popular with vegans.
My partner had the Rueben sandwich which reminded her of Montreal. A thick filling of corned beef, cheese, sauerkraut, mustard, mayo, etc. It comes with a side of real French fries.
Most meals are between $17 and $22 and are very filling. So arrive hungry for brunch or lunch. For something lighter, there is an attractive display of cakes, sandwiches and focaccias.
The black coffee was rich and my partner was impressed with a cup of the home made lemonade; fresh, tart and a real palate cleanser.
A small and lively cafe, with interesting food and check the daily specials board.
It’s a lovely cafe that we heartily recommend. Our sincere thanks for the invitation to come here and sample things from...
