We were so excited to visit Quarter 2 by Night for a Mums night out. When we first arrived we were stood in the doorway for quite some time before being greeted then eventually awkwardly being taken to our table which was not fully dressed. We were offered drinks as we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. 30 mins into our booking we were very abruptly told that our booking was only for 90mins, we assumed this meant the table was being turned over at 9pm. We ordered cocktails which were $23 each and tasted like pure pineapple juice. We ordered a bunch of starters, pasta and bread to share and some wine. The entrees came out quickly and were quite tasty, notable mention to the eggplant, cheese sticks. Calamari could take it or leave it. It took quite some time for the mains to come out after our entrees were served and finished. We were a bit worried about the time constraint, but had no updates/reassurance from the staff members. Gnocchi was ok, pappardelle ragu was yum. Bread was a generous serving with good butter. Cheesecake wasn’t very nice (we didn’t finish the slice between 5 of us). The restaurant emptied out and the music was turned off around 9pm. The staff basically dropped the bill on our table and implied it was time to go.
Overall a pretty disappointing experience after following this business on instagram and seeing the warm, welcoming, friendly environment they portray. It’s clear the owners are only interested in young, hot influencers that can promote their business and don’t care for ‘’normal” locals. Quite the shame. Definitely won’t be back or recommending to...
Read moreUnfortunately this place was a bit of a let down, definitely not the safe haven of an Abbey. No staff greeted us at the entry where it clearly states "please wait to be seated" multiple staff members walked past without acknowledging that we were even there. When we were finally seated the server took our coffee order, we were then brought the wrong drinks with another server questioning if we had even ordered the right thing.
The wait to get our order taken was even longer and when we finally did wave down a server the food then took a very long time to come out. During the wait, we really got to take in the space, it's a beautiful cafe in terms of its aesthetics but the same couldn't be said about the service, especially in what seemed like the man in charge (middle aged asain man) talking down to his staff in full view and earshot of customers, this treatment from management/owner clearly reflects in the staff showing no care in their work, no one smiling and appearing like they don't enjoy their job. Witnessing this mistreatment of staff was a huge let down.
When our food finally came... Overcooked scrambled eggs, burnt bacon, severely overcooked dry chicken that was mostly batter. Lack of seasoning on all dishes. It was pretty poor. The only good think about our experience was the coffee (that is when the right drinks were eventually made).
If you're in Moonee ponds, I'd recommend somewhere like Sir Duke on Puckle street or Ascot Food Store on Ascot Vale Rd and try to steer clear of this...
Read moreOne of my first stops after ISO restrictions; it was so good to be able to dine out again. It feels like a completely different world, with so many new changes; but it's still a fantastic feeling to be out. The staff at Dear Abbey were brilliant, and excited to be seating diners again. After months of takeaway and eating at home, it was lovely to sit and enjoy a coffee made by someone else. The barista here knows their stuff, and the coffee was delicious.
Choosing a chorizo omelette and the hotcake as our meals, we didn't have to wait too long. The omelette was so fluffy, and the cheese and chorizo had so much flavour. Seasoned perfectly, I loved the soft omelette with the crunchy toast.
The hotcake was a sight to behold. Served in it's own mini pan, this was one giant, thick hotcake topped with heaps of fresh fruit including beautiful dragon fruit and stunning passion fruit. Mascarpone cut through the richness, and the jar of syrup was plentiful, so you could literally drown your hotcake in it. To finish it off were two crispy nutella tortellini which were fun, crunchy and oozy with nutella. Yum!!
With social distancing measures in place, and hand sanitizer available; it's clear that the team at Dear Abbey have their customers best interests at heart. The staff were friendly and chatty, the food and coffee excellent; and the atmosphere in this light filled cafe was cosy and welcoming. It really is a joy to visit this lovely cafe, and I'm so glad...
