Red Rooster Hogans Corner — Restaurant in Melbourne

Red Rooster is under rated, I had a bad experience years ago when I got a sub or a burger, one of those. The chicken inside was very dry and had burnt black bits. That put me off for a very long time, until yesterday, and then again today (because yesterday was a winner) Just to get more fried chicken.

The Hoppers store has parking right opposite the entrance which is very handy. The service is good, food is very fresh. The fried chicken in particular, I LOVE the crunchy coating. Their coleslaw is so good (Im comparing this to Kfc as there isnt really anything else) its not soggy with a bunch of liquid. I think they prep it daily. I used to do that when I worked in a deli. You open up a big bag of slaw without the dressing, throw it in a container, then add the dressing and mix it. Anyhoo...moving on, the mashed potato and gravy is a bit different. Im not a fan of it. I know they dont actually peel potato's and mash them, but it doesn't need to taste like its out of a box and then add water. I just thought it tasted like that. The consistency of the gravy was a bit weird too. At a guess the gravy tastes like it has a slight mushroom base. Maybe its me and its actually really amazing 🤷🏽‍♀️ The roast potatoes and their roast chicken is great, they have good stuffing. I got a 6 pack of the buttermilk wings which says 'crunchy coated' Im not sure if theyre sposed to be like the fried chicken? Not only that, I got a dud wing in my pack, looked like half a nibble. Five wings and third of a nibble I'll try them again perhaps 😐 They weren't crunchy at all. Tasty, but I prefer the normal fried chicken pieces I think. The Reds burger was a winner! The bun is like a brioche. I read its a potato bun, whatever it is, its delicious. The herb mayo, chicken patty, lettuce and cheese is a good combo. Yummy. Chips are standard, lots of chicken salt, so you dont need to ask for extra.

Prepaid a Christmas order on the hour and arrived 5 minutes past the scheduled time.

Then was told by manager that there would be a 15 minute delay.

When I suggested that I should be compensated for the inconvenience the manager snapped. Seriously why any retailer would risk a one-star rating over a $1 wholesale 1.25l Coke (when they were clearly at fault) really shows this guy has zero managerial skills.

Definitely no spirit of Christmas at this store.

Then he moaned about being there at 6am, that the staff were working on Christmas (like they don't get paid) and that 15 minutes is not much and that it's Christmas.

When I informed him that I would be lodging a complaint about his service he pretty much dared me and said that head office would just refer it back to him.

I doubt that a $800 million dollar plus franchise owner (Craveable Brands) would appreciate individual franchise owners trashing their brand and offering a totally awful customer service.

I waited 3 minutes waiting for a member on his phone to aknolwage me.... idk his name i didn't feel comfortable photographing the employees in question but he was just sitting by on his mobile.. I found a big bone inside my rooster rolll it kinda scared me as i could of choked on it ;-; The girl in the hejab took my order tho and was really sweet!! Had to wait for her for a while tho as none of the other employees were working just sitting on phones at the time The inappropriate music being played was not pg and quite offensive aswell I understand it's almost closing time but when having the dining area open you should still have in place a rule about the music being played The plus sized girl working in the kitchen should not be holding her phone in her neck whilst she is working as it is not also ohs hazzored but also kinda gross as alot of bacteria can be on your phone i watched her talk to someone for at least 5 minutes holding tbe phone in her chin and sholder i attended this red rooster at 9.05 to 9.20 so the relevant manager can see...
