This is a very good restaurant featuring Malaysian dishes. It was very busy when we came in for dinner at around 5pm+ on a weekday. The service was fast and we were seated quickly. It was nice to see that the staff placed a lady who had a baby in a pram at a quieter section of the restaurant so that the baby can sleep where it’s quieter. They placed us near the window where the staff was flipping the roti so that my child will be entertained. The roti flipping was entertaining for children and I liked that roti is made fresh on premises.
We ordered the satay, fried kway teow, crispy noodle and the rice with the Malaysian chicken. Drinks we ordered the ribena watermelon with lychee, iced Milo dinosaur and Bandung. The fried kway teow was delicious, but I would have preferred a thicker kind of flat rice noodle instead of the skinny flat rice noodle. The fried chicken was very well marinated and tasty. The satay was good but I would have liked more peanut sauce to go with it as the portion given was quite miserly. The crispy noodle was good. I loved the ribena watermelon as it was very refreshing, the Bandung was very nice with the right mix of rose syrup and evaporated milk. The iced mil dinosaur had enough Milo to make any Milo loving child jump with delight. Service was ok, depending on the staff who served you. One staff was very good as he was able to recommend the drinks and gave us service with a smile, whilst another lady staff was just nonchalant while serving. Premises was clean and I liked that there was no volume on the tv as the place was fairly noisy with all the chatter from the customers. I would definitely revisit Roti Road in the...

Just returned from the Barkly street, Footscray restaurant.
We ordered: Roti canai : It was good. Roti telur and bawang : It was excellent. Lots of flavour. Veg curry puffs : It was good. Roti road special fried vermicelli : It was excellent. Best I have had! Salt & pepper fish fillet in birds nest : It was terrible. Insipid, no seasoning with salt/pepper.
The kicker was when I told our table's server that the fish was terrible and tasteless, he just said ok and nodded his head. I was more amused than anything else:) He clearly thought I was paying the kitchen a compliment! It was only when my Dad told him to go and speak to the kitchen about it, he thought he should.
I went and paid the bill and asked for the Manager. I was told she was busy and she was sitting at one of the tables with a lot of paperwork. I told the staff about the fish and it was not ok for our server to just say "ok" when a customer complains about a dish. He needs to inform the kitchen/chef and let the customer know. To which, the staff also said "ok":):) The Manager can see all this happening and did not bother to come over at all.
Now, I can totally understand a dish being off in a restaurant. What I cannot fathom is how both the staff that I spoke to about this were totally blase and did not care. Speaks volumes about the management ethos towards good...
Read moreMee goreng was tasty and came in a reasonable portion. Spiced perfectly and served filled with a good amount of ingredients and not just noodle. 4/5
Nasi lemak was very disappointing. The 2 main elements, the rice and the sambal chili, were abysmal. The rice wasn’t sufficient flavoured. Missing the pandan leaf flavour and could use more coconut. The chili was extremely sweet. More of a sweet sauce than a sambal chili. The chicken berempah (fried chicken) was tasty and oddly the star of the dish. It appears that dish has been westernized which is very disappointing. 1/5
Service was substandard. Staff seemed preoccupied with their own agenda chatting, discussing and laughing away instead of keeping alert to serve the customers. Furthermore when asked if they had a spicier chili to replace the sweet sambal, they provided me with hainanese chicken rice chili without explaining what it was, and ultimately made the dish worse. 1/5
Would possibly get takeaway mee goreng in the future if I was desperately craving some Malaysian food, but unlikely to return to dine-in in the...
