Sloth Bar — Restaurant in Melbourne

Love this place for a drink and the cocktails are great. But don’t bother with a function here.

I booked my 40th at the start of Feb and came in to pay the deposit. Hard to know if I was then referred to a patron or a staff member about the night, but I clearly interrupted his beer. He then showed me around and offered drinks and music options for the night.

When I rang to organise catering and cake drop off 2 weeks before the function, it appears my booking was forgotten about as I was quickly hung up on and told I would receive a text message to confirm the night was still going to go ahead. (Again I had already paid the deposit at this point) I got a text message about half an hour later that the booking was ok - so I again tried to organise cake and catering via text. I got nothing back. I called during the week and no answer. Finally the day of the function arrived and again I’m sure my booking was forgotten about. When I arrived a few hours before to set up the cake and table decorations I once again interrupted the ‘functions manager’s??? beer to a horror look on his face as he realised he’d forgotten.

Not being able to set anything up I left the cake and was assured it would be done for me.

It wasn’t.

So once I arrived for the night and guests were already there it was hard to organise and I left half the stuff in bags as it was too hard to move things around and set up like planned. When I said how upset I was at the lack of communication, I got a message back saying everything was replied too - directly under my unanswered message. The guests had fun but I was so stressed/disappointed for the first half of the night or really put a damper on it.

Like I said. Great for a drink/catch up but don’t book a function here.

Thank you for such a sarcastic response. At no point did I rase my voice or yell. I was definitely short with my responses after being told I could not leave the cake or set up for the caterer at the beginning. I apologised for coming across rude at the time and again after in text and explained why.

When I walked in I was greeted by what I thought was the functions manager. This was the same person who had showed me the area and offered music options when I paid the deposit. He was very confused by the booking and then went to get you, again I didn’t yell. How would you feel if you thought your party you had booked and paid for was forgotten about?

You then agreed to take the cake and leave it there and said it would be taken care of. It wasn’t until I followed up on it when I got there.

But I thank you for not taking my review seriously and showing your true colours.

I was a regular here, but you didn’t take any of my feedback seriously or show any remorse so I left this review. Happy to find someone else as suggested.

We've been coming here as much as we can for years. It's one of our favourite pubs in Melbourne. Friendly and relaxing, and with great music (a rarity) and excellent, eccentric, ecclectic decor. Awesome and accommodating bar staff (another rarity), with a good sense of humour. Great beer gardens front and back. Also have lots of board games and a pool table (though the room is a bit squeezy, but this just makes for some humorous interactions with...

What a fabulous retreat in the heart of Footscray. Great staff, beers on tap and in cans, and their gin selection was terrific. Love the ambience, grungy downstairs, upstairs like a cool aunts comfy flat and the beer gardens great. I wanted to steal a couple of lamps too 🤣. A very cool place. Do yourself a favour and pop in for a couple of drinks before your dinner elsewhere. Didn't eat, so couldn't comment....
