Nice atmosphere. Terrible service and incredibly rude staff. I have had quite a few negative experiences at this cafe over the years. A few weeks ago I came in for a coffee. I ordered a mocha, I also asked for one sugar in my mocha. The female staff then proceeded to tell me (in broken english) “No, mocha already sweet, you don’t want too much weight.” I’ve never, not once in my life, been treated this way at a cafe. I’m 52kg at 5ft5. I’m a healthy woman and my weight is no issue. Even if I were to have been a bigger person, there is absolutely no reason to make customers feel this way when ordering a coffee. I don’t care if you’re trying to save money or whatever reason you have to justify this in your head. This is not how Australians treat one another. Even if I have to pay extra, I don’t mind. It should be a choice. If your customers want sugar with their coffee, you should respect this as a cafe employee. The mocha tasted horrible.

Attended with a group of school friends, one happened to be of Vietnamese descent and the others Caucasian. The Vietnamese friend showed up and ordered her food around 5 minutes after we did. We were the only people at the cafe. She got her food served to her within a few minutes. The rest of us waited 10-15 minutes for our food to be served.

The very first time I ordered here with my partner, we had told the staff we wanted our meals take away. It was a hot day and we had been waiting over 15 minutes, so we decided to take a seat outside whilst we waited as it was quiet and we were tired of standing around waiting. They served us our meals on ceramic bowls with cutlery. We didn’t mind, we just reminded staff once again that we wanted our meals to go. Staff proceeded to become incredibly mad with us, insisting we “have to eat in if we want to sit down.” As I said, we told them when we ordered we’d like our meals to go. We were sitting down because we were waiting around half an hour for our meals. It took them another half an hour to put our meals in to-go containers. We were there for an hour and by the time we received our meals, they were too cold to eat.

Each time I’ve gone to this cafe, I’ve had a negative experience. I genuinely have no idea how they’re achieving 4 stars on Google Reviews. I suspects they’re paying people to do so or asking people/friends/family to leave good reviews. After my experiences, I am in disbelief that the people of Footscray actually...

Just after the fun but mediocre To’s I went to French Baguette, another one suggested as being superior to Nhu Lan. I ordered the bánh mì thịt but the lady serving convinced me the crispy pork was the one to get if I’d never been before. The pork itself was just so yummy-greasy-salty, which is lucky because there was a LOT of it. No hoisin just mayo and the pickles to save you from dying of greasy salty umami overload. A bite from the right, alternated with a refreshing crisp sweet and acidic bite from the left did the trick. Ouch that chilli hurts - love it! Is this really a French baguette though? Certainly not sourdough, but definitely large. Very soft white bread with a crusty exterior. The bread was not to Nhu Lan standard but the flavour balance and mouthfeel overall was sensational. A really, really good bánh mì heo quay, reminiscent of the stupendously large one at Bullseye in St Kilda. $11. Dying of chilli overdose now. Seeking a soothing dessert! Next stop: HS Cakes. P.s. I still love...

This place is filthy. I made the sad mistake of remaining in the property after smelling how bad the place was. I thought it may have been a particular food they were cooking and thought I would give it a chance. Purchase your goods prior to sitting down when I went to collect my chocolate eclair. The cream was as hard as concrete in all of them. Chose something else. Coffee arrived at sticky, surfaced table. Coffee was bitter and overly hot. Went to the toilet afterwards. Toilet would not have been cleaned since the place was built, It appeared. Cobwebs spiders, and grimy walls. Usually I find a good judge of how clean the kitchen is is by how clean the toilet is if they keep their toilet area clean. They will usually keep the food prep area clean. To top it off there is a unusually high EFTPOS surcharge. As reflected in my stars rating, I would not...

🐷 BBQ Pork Banh Mi 🥖 Tofu Banh Mi French Baguette Cafe (now Pho Ngon) have been around for years and I finally decided to give their Banh mi a try. The first thing I noticed was that the rolls here are massive, you have an option of two sizes. Probably the biggest Banh Mi I’ve had to date. They are fresh, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I actually can’t believe they are only $8.50 🤯 They are super generous on all of the fillings, the BBQ Pork was so juicy and flavourful. If anything, the ratio was just slightly off with too much meat, however I really enjoyed it. Tofu wasn’t advertised however when we asked she happily fried some up! The service is kind here ☺️ One of my favourite options for a Banh Mi, especially if you’re really hungry! ⭐️ 4/5 (Great)

Truly an incredible chicken banh mi for $10. Freshly toasted, sweet sauce added onto the grilled/roasted chicken (I can’t remember what it was exactly), and packed with decadent and incredible flavour that truly hits the spot. I thought I hated banh mi’s but the one from French Baguette Cafe made me fall in love with them again. Service is not amazing and the place could use some cleaning or upgrades, but the banh mi makes up for all the other qualities of the place. I can’t wait to make a trek out to Footscray to experience the banh mi all over again.
