Dinner: Came for dinner after sampling their yum cha and hospitable serving during lunch. The food was in fact better than lunch. The mud crab meat was firm and the sauce was perfect. The Fried Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk was also good and they even made a dish that was not on the menu for us - Duck Salad with Jellyfish. The steamed chicken was average but they were generous with the ginger sauce. The service was good to start with but they seemed to be understaffed even though the restaurant was only half full. The service further dropped towards the end of the evening (even after I paid mid meal and left them a generous tip) where the waiters and managers were nowhere to be seen at one point and although the manager did come to talk to use at the end of the evening, it did not make up for the tea not being refilled or the table not being cleared. Will go again as the food was good. Yum Cha: Weekday Yum Cha in a suburban Chinese Restaurant so wasn't really expecting a huge variety but they did have all the essentials. The Har Gow pastry was too thick so it looked over steamed but the filling was above average. The Chicken Feet flavour was a little too sweet and the texture was just a little too soft. The Sui Mai was not up to scratch with just mince pork flavour even though there were specs of shiitake. The fried prawn in rice paper was pretty good. The service was very good from the managers and trolley ladies who were friendly and cleared the plates often so that was a refreshing change. Given that Yum Cha chefs come and go all the time, I would give this place another chance purely because it has been around since eternity so must be doing something right.

In terms of food, Shark Fin is a bit higher than standard quality yum cha you'll find in most Box Hill restaurants. Their dessert options are better than on previous visits, adding creme brulee and molten chocolate cakes to the menu. However the price increases to everything is where SF loses points. If a restaurant charges premium prices, it should offer a premium experience, and SF does not. It has not been renovated beyond its late 80's design. Staff are chaotic. The tables are cheap tressles you can feel the joins on, the plastic seats are uncomfortable and the worst was being harrassed for a tip despite already paying a %10 'surcharge' because it was Sunday. It's a very grabby and greedy practice they should cease. Our bill for yum cha with basic drinks for three was $185, with only 2 'premium' dishes, the rest being standard yum cha items. Previous visits topped out at $120. SF cannot justify such a huge jump in cost, even with rising food prices. Will not recommend because although the food is okay, it is not worth the pain to your wallet. For example, chipping in only $30 more would have paid for the Conservatory buffet for us- and Shark Fin is a long way from that quality.

We used to come here all the time pre-covid, then we started touring Oz, so this weekend (13/1/24) three of us went there for yum-cha lunch after a long absence of 3 years. We found the excellent service and food quality the same. The waitresses went out of their way to describe the dishes, though, by experience, we knew what they were but they did not know that, yet I was intrigued when one dish was called "Mango Seagull". We were guessing it was her accent and the menu had not changed dramatically since we were last there. Anyway, we did not have the "seagull", but we had a plethora of other dishes (our 30-yo son seems to have hollow legs, especially if we're paying), all dishes living up to expectations. Having travelled the country for 3 years, eating a variety of cuisines, Shark Fin Keysborough still ranks 5 stars in comparison to other far-ranging yum-cha establishments. We'll be back before again heading off touring Oz. BTW, our son (the same one) brought his US-resident fiancée here a few months back and she rated it higher than any yum-cha she has had in the States.

I went to this place on saturday,22-5-21 with my family partner, we were 5 people. It was so busy on the day saturday night. The waitress looks so scary and not friendly. She didn't give us time to choose the food, and she didn't manage to explain clearly to us. The first food was nice, scallop and vermicelli noodle. She said it was the special dish on that day. But the second food was terrible. I can't believe the restaurant like shark finn will give us low quality food, lower than the one i bought in springvale market for $7 a box. It tooks 2 hours to serve 2 dish. Then we called the waitress to complain, because we need to go somewhere at 8 pm, they serve all 3 menu's that we ordered. The fried rice was so plain. Only the ribs is okay. And the chicken, i better get it from kfc. Then when we ask the bill for pay, they didn't even give us the change. Until we went to cashier and asked our money. They forgot. It was nearly $40. I booked this restaurant to celebrate my partner birthday with his brother and sister, also quality time to meet up with each other, it seems all ruined because of poor quality of this place. I won't go to shark finn anymore, even the one in city. Just waste my money and time...

I am sorry to write this but felt compelled to do so.

I ordered takeaway food and arrived to pickup. I was informed that the dish I ordered was unavailable but they substituted it with the closest available vegetable. I was glad they did that and glad to accept it. Bill was $110.

After paying the bill, I asked if she could give some cut chilli. She said no as I did not ask for it when I ordered. Restaurant was not busy at all. I left upset and disappointed and as I walked to the car, felt I should go back and request it.

I went back and requested cut chilli as I would enjoy the food better. Then she explained me that it will cost $2. I asked her if she would bill me $2 if I had the same food as dine in. To that she said, in take away they have cost of containers. I paid the $2 and got my cut chilli.

But I must say this is not hospitality!

I have been going to Sharkfin for 25 years albeit have not been going their regularly in the last 5 years or so but I know many of the staff over the years including the lady that served me tonight.

Perhaps it was a lapse in her judgement but I write this so that a hospitality venue and its team are held accountable for providing service to...
