One of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had.

Update: First time trying breadfruit. Second time getting BLOWN AWAY by the flavours and textures of the food at South Ceylon restaurant in Oakleigh South. The most prosaic presentation in bain-marie. The most fabulous food. Kale and coconut salad. Pork curry. Sweet eggplant with onions. Breadfruit in creamy curry (a cross between potato and jackfruit? Not sweet, bland like potato but soft like jackfruit). The spices! A decent amount of chilli heat, not quite blowing my head off but not far off. No one here at 2pm. A hand washing station in the middle of the seating area for eating with your hands. Very friendly service with great recommendations. If this is home style Sri Lankan comfort food then I’d be happy moving there. But it’s so great that I don’t have to. Thank you...

Had the $18 lunch buffet. Goes until 4pm. Some dishes were better than others.

Papadums were provided in smaller pieces rather than typically larger servings. Came with the yogurt chilli.

Two rice options: yellow and white.

Meat curries: Pork, which is rare for Sri Lankan restaurants, was tender but a bit salty. Lamb was tender but most had bones and taste was quite mild. Chicken taste was ok but was quite dry.

Vegetable curries Pineapple curry was novel, refreshing, excellent. Beetroot wasn't as muddy as it can be sometimes. Dhal was thicker than I prefer but still tasty. Potato was very average. Jackfruit was sour and somewhat mushy but had more bite than others I've had.

Sambar was spicy and fragrant. Also had a broccoli Sambar which was excellent.

40 degree day and air conditioning struggled to keep us...

Today 27th May 23 at 8.45pm, we went to buy a chicken koththu and the receptionist girl did not mention that they are out of chicken curry. They accepted the order and mentioned that they do not have chicken curry at the end. At least they should have mention that before we pay. The koththu was also not in a good condition. Waiting time was excessive. 3 other customers were also given wrong food when I was there and I saw that they also requested the correct order. I used to go here for last whole year, but do not feel going again. We were so disappointed. This place used to be a nice place and had a real good koththu. But it seems quality went down. The new staff seems not very good at their job. It is unfortunate we missed a nice place we...
