The Beehive Hotel in Hawthorn has been around since 1857 and it’s had a few lives. Its latest chapter is thanks to The Only Hospitality Group (@inglewoodroasters, @hotelcollingwood, @myotherbrother), who’ve recently taken over and given it a stylish refresh. 🐝

Despite the revamp, it still holds onto its warm, neighbourhood charm. They like to call it “a place for the people” - and it really is. Super comfy and welcoming. The menu leans into classic Aussie pub fare, with most dishes coming out of their woodfire oven and a slight modern twist. 🔥

You can dine in the main bistro, the public bar, or the outdoor heated courtyard with a retractable roof (big yes for Melbourne weather!). 🌞

⭐️ Focaccia & Burrata – Well-seasoned, super fresh.
⭐️ Gruyère Leek Croquettes – So tasty!! Loved the hot honey combo.
✔️ Woodfired Octopus
⭐️ Snapper & Potatoes (Special) – Beautiful crust, incredible sauce.
✔️ Dry Aged Club Steak – Tender, cooked perfectly. I personally prefer my steak with more of a crust. The chips were so crispy!

All the dishes were super generous, flavour-packed and well-executed. The only thing missing? A bit more music to lift the vibe - it was there, but barely noticeable. Otherwise, a great pub to have in the east. We’ll definitely be back! 💯

The hotel looks great and we were going to stay for dinner and the footy but service at the bar was poor. I felt sorry for the single person working, he was making cocktails while 5 customers waited and appeared stressed, I asked for a Great Northern and a cider he had to ask which beer I wanted and he poured it and gave my friend a ginger beer. When she asked if it was cider he seemed frustrated then went into the cellar I assume to change the keg and when he came back up he didn’t speak to my friend and didn’t give her her drink. She asked if she could have her cider and he said they didn’t have any so she ended up having the ginger beer. My other friend asked for a fig old fashioned when she arrived and by this stage there were more staff. When it took over 10mins without receiving a drink I went to see if she was ok, she said the guy didn’t seem to know what he was doing and couldn’t find what he was looking for, checking numerous bottles without luck. After 15mins he told my friend he couldn’t make her drink but didn’t bother to offer an alternative, so she asked if he could make a normal old fashioned which he said he could. No apology and he appeared annoyed. We left after 1 drink. I really wanted to like this pub but bar staff who are unfriendly and unhelpful are not appealing. May return to try the food as the menu looks good and we’ll try the dining room so we don’t have to...

Remind myself not to go to any pub in Hawthorn when it’s a grand final season with Hawthorn playing. Unfortunately the place was slammed which resulted in poor service in the dining room. Trying to get attention from staff initially was nigh on impossible. Food service was extremely slow because of the huge volumes being ordered at the bar. They did give a free bottle of red to one person at our table whose meal was last to be delivered at 50 minutes post order for a burger. We ordered a bottle of white and it wasn’t cold so we all had to put ice in our glasses. Waitress responded with “I’ll let the bar know for next time”. Not great. Then there were the meals. 3 of our meals were not hot. I had sausages and the mash was cold and the sausages themselves lukewarm warm. The wow wow sauce was delicious but it was water consistency which made me think something wasn’t right. I raised the meal was barely lukewarm and the response was “I’ll tell the chef”. My friend ordered the steak special and she said it was cold; we don’t think they were put underneath the heat lamps once cooked while waiting for the other meals to be completed. Now I have eaten here before and it was delicious but last night was terrible so I feel very much like I won’t come back now. It wasn’t a good experience for us at...

I’m hesitant to post this review because I don’t like posting negative reviews but I think it needs to be shared. Firstly I’ll say that the service and venue is very acceptable and no complaints about those elements. My issue was with my meal. I ordered a main course serving of pesto gnocchi which was incredibly disappointing. When it was placed in front of me I said to the waiter I ordered the main serving. He told me that’s what I had. I’ve posted a picture of it. At $36 for a main course serving, I would expect more than 12 pieces of gnocchi. A few other people at the table ordered the other pasta dish with prawns which was also rather small. I’ve worked in hospo for many years and understand what goes into food costs etc. If that’s the best you can do based on your costings for a vegetarian pasta dish, or any pasta dish for that matter, perhaps don’t serve them. The rest of the meals looked good but I would avoid the pasta dishes if you have an appetite.

Well, I went there on Sunday evening and had a couple of drinks with my mate. After a while, we started to feel hungry and tried to order some fries to eat. Surprisingly, they apparently forgot my food until i asked them to give me a refund ( already waiting for an hour)and it was my first time visiting. I’d always wanted to go there, even though I’d heard from another friend that their food service was terrible. They said they ordered some snacks, but it took over an hour to arrive. I thought maybe they were just unlucky, so I still wanted to give it a go. But now I understand why my friends felt their service was terrible. I was the only Asian customer (my mate is a local Aussie, Caucasian), and they still forgot my food. I don’t want to assume they were being racist, but another Asian friend of mine who’s also been there had the same issue. So, I don’t think I’ll go again
