We came tonight a Saturday night with friends .. table of six and a booking for 7 pm not realising how noisy the Restaurant became.

Was actually hard to hear each other talk. I must admit the waiter and the chef spent time to explain the menu to make sure that I was not going to eat anything with onion or garlic, but I did find it was very limiting and even with my food allergies I was restricted to what I could order from the menu.

I don’t normally have this problem in Japanese restaurants but once we had ordered the waiter tells us that all your food will be coming at the same time. I didn’t quite click but he said all entrees and main courses would be served at the same time.

I had three beef skewers, entree size. They were okay but small.

I also ordered three potato hashbrowns croquettes and they were very good. I had miso soup which I enjoyed. My wife ordered a udon noodle vegetable dish that she found was quite oily.

My biggest disappointment was at 8:28. We were told that we must pack up and pay the bill and leave by 830 as another group was booked to use the table. My friend who made the reservation was under the impression we can order up until 9 o’clock when they close the kitchen at no time we were told at the start of our dinner that we had to vacate by 830

No wonder all the starters and main courses came at the same time

Not impressed I know my five companions who all say that they’ve never been told to leave a Restaurant without telling us upfront.

I also was unable to order an iced chocolate. It was clearly shown on the menu as they said that they are too busy to make drinks.

I was not impressed overall and won’t...

I had the pleasure of dining at The Wasabi Place recently, and what truly elevated the experience was the exceptional service from Sophia Hu and Lucas Dunn. From the moment we were greeted, their warmth and professionalism set the tone for a fantastic meal.

Sophia was incredibly attentive, effortlessly balancing friendliness with efficiency. She anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and explained the menu with such enthusiasm that we were excited to try dishes we hadn’t considered before. Her timing was perfect, and she made us feel genuinely welcome throughout the evening.

Lucas was equally impressive. He checked in on us with genuine care, made excellent sake recommendations, and even shared some fun insights about the dishes that added to the enjoyment. His calm, confident demeanour brought a relaxed energy to our table, and it was clear he takes great pride in his work.

Together, Sophia and Lucas created a service experience that was seamless, thoughtful, and memorable. It's rare to find staff who make you feel both like a VIP and a friend. I’ll absolutely return to The Wasabi Place, and it's thanks in large part to these two outstanding team members. Highly...

We were very excited to try Wasabi in Elsternwick and we walk away super happy that such a high quality Japanese restaurant has opened in the neighbourhood.

The food was an excellent standard. The complimentary salmon was a great surprise and was so fresh and tasty. We then shared the Tokyo Chicken Pops (tasty and tender), Spicy Chicken Gyoza (the amount of spice was just right) the Kushiyaki-Wagu beef skewers (to die for, real melt in your mouth) and teriyaki chicken roll (amazing flavours). Each dish was presented beautifully, was fresh and tasted delicious. For main we shared the Curry Don and the serving size was large and filled us up.

Ren and his staff were friendly, attentive and lovely.

Great value for money for what you get. A new family favourite.

Having visited their Kew location on several occasions, I was excited to see The Wasabi Place set up in Elsternwick. I’m pleased to say that the standard, quality, and presentation are just as impressive as in Kew. The restaurant’s minimalist design creates a sleek and modern atmosphere, and the staff are very friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. As for the food, our choices did not disappoint—we loved every dish. The attention to detail in both flavor and presentation was evident although the shiitake mushrooms were missing from the wagyu beef skewers! A great addition to Elsternwick for Japanese cuisine lovers! Looking forward to returning.

We were recommended to try The Wasabi Place from a friend. We ordered the noodles, eye fillet, ninja platter, and prawns. The noodles and platter were enjoyable, but unfortunately the eye fillet was on the tough side. The prawns were the most challenging. They were cut in half with the shell left on, which made them very difficult to eat. We even asked our waiter for the best way to tackle them, but they weren’t sure either. It would be much easier (and more enjoyable) if the prawns were served without the shell, as the flavour was great but the effort took away from the experience.
