A surprisingly spacious cafeteria in Highett, opposite Woolworths, catering to families with children.

The menu variety is reasonable, but not extensive for adults; missing basic portion options such as bacon and eggs. Children’s selections are good.

Menu pricing is reasonable for food, and slightly high for coffee.

The coffee is as expected for Melbourne; a bit more flavour would help.

The porridge was great, good size, full of flavour and good texture. Presentation was excellent.

The staff were polite and service was above average. Given the number of staff, they could provide more attention to customers.

It is pram and wheel chair friendly, with a ramp at the entrance.

It is in a great location, close to Woolworths, with plenty of parking on the street or in the opposite shopping centre car park.

It is slightly noisy but not overly so, as expected for the wooden floor. In winter day time it was slightly cold and could benefit from higher heating setting; especially with frequent opening of the door.

I will...

I’m really hesitant to leave a review of Third wheel highett, as this cafe is so amazing that the more we talk about it the harder it will be to get a table. I don’t know where to start - cafe atmosphere - there is no where I would rather be - either as a solo diner; with a group of friends or a cheeky work from home session - this is the place! The Toby’s estate coffee is made so well that it rates as one of the best coffees I’ve had! Then there is the food! Today’s meal was the special - which was a steak sandwich - and it was one of the best I have ever had! I thought the prawn toast was my favourite here - but I think it’s now got some competition! And if you haven’t been to one of the amazing pop up dinners that they do monthly - you don’t know what you are missing! And we can’t go past the shrine to all our furry friends at the front! I really love this place and am glad that I uncovered this...

This cute cafe was recommended by my work colleague and damn was she spot on.

As we walked in we were warmly greeted and advised to choose any table we wanted. Bring a week day it was not too busy so we checked out the cute outdoor area before we sat down inside by the big bright windows.

We chose the zucchini fritters and the beef baguette.

The zucchini fritters were good, not the best we've had but they had plenty of flavour and crispy.

The beef baguette was the winner by far. The meat was flavour packed and the dipping sauce made all the difference. Damn I don't even know how to describe the deliciousness we were hit with.

I will be back for sure, but I'm not sure if we could be convinced to order anything but...

Had walked past and seen site all locked up, under renovations, so thought will come back when done, though it wasn't a revamp, it was a completely new place...anyway we liked it. Husband had scrambled eggs on toast while I had avocado smash and because I couldn't resist, fries! Anyway couldn't eat it all so guess what I left...(choose your own ending). Lots of seating inside, limited outside and up the back, good for groups. Food was nice, but always think one piece toast with avo bit stingy, especially when it costs $23! It came with eggs, which I hate, so husband had these. We also had coffees (flat white and decaf soy lattes) which were really good. So yes go and check it out but no 'wow' factor.
