Cakes look great, but the food is outstanding. This is an authentic Polish restaurant and they wowed my mother, who being born in Poland, and picky with food at the best of times, is hard to please these days. She really enjoyed everything she ate. They have traditional tripe and sauerkraut dishes, their schnitzels are every bit as good as the old Scheherazade used to be on Acland Street (which is the highest accolade you can give a schnitzel). The food is just tasty and delicious without being overspiced or overwhelming. Service was also fabulous and definitely going there often.
Went back again today. Food did not disappoint. Mum went with the tripe again and it was even better than last time. I have actually picked it up and brought it home for her a few times and she rates it 'outstanding' every time. This time I went with the duck, which was excellent. It came with red cabbage which is the best I've ever had, and the accompanying sliced, creamed potatoes may have been a heart attack waiting to happen, but what a way to go ! Heaven in your mouth and waiting for more ! Definitely...

The friendly ‘ma and pa’ corner store owners are the real deal. You can usually find them either in the kitchen cooking up a tornado-sized storm or behind the counter brewin’ the good beans. And so far as coffee goes… it’s good. Like, yum-good. And besides who can say no to $2.5 coffee during rush hour? Nobody that’s who. Nobody and toddlers but so? They don’t even touch the stuff. Bunch of caffeine tee-totallers if you ask me. Babyccino? Cherub please.
Seriously glad this business has (so far) weathered the latest lockdown because they’re a Balaclava staple. I hope they stay the course and weather any and all storms come what may, sans said storms cooked up in said kitchen.
Five stars!

Read moreOften walk past Truffles it has the positive sign of a well liked establishment. There is activity and always patrons. The service is friendly and unobtrusive. I enjoyed a hamburger, it had enough salad and chips that satisfied the lunch appetite, My friend limbed out on the tasting platter, (a bit sparse for $33), possibly an acquired taste. The Borscht was hot and presented in a kitch cup and saucer, I was shared a few sips and it certainly piqued the taste buds with questions. My piece de resistance is dessert, and Truffles cake display gets my chocolate coloured blood quivering like a Melbourne square wheeled tram racing to beat the green lights. I'd end up as wide as Uluru if I was let loose in that delightful glass cabinet! I suggest a dessert tasting platter, I'd be there all...
