Quite a disappointing experience for a foodie but the waiter saved the day. He was friendly and efficient, and honestly this place would be a no go again otherwise. We ordered the lamb ribs, polenta chips, chicken wings, focaccia, and mac n cheese croquettes. Let me start with the lamb ribs by saying there was nothing on them. They were tender and falling off the bone, but there was NOTHING on them. My friends and I expected a smokey & sticky marinade, or a nice glaze, but were sad when we saw pale and dull ribs placed on our table. They came on a bed of “tzatziki” which also had no flavour so the dish overall was quite bland and not worth eating. The polenta chips were decent, but not properly bonded together so they fell apart as soon as we tried picking them up. The chicken wings came with a variety of sauces to choose from - which we assumed they were basted in. Wrong. All the chicken wings were the same - it was only the dipping sauce that was different. Lastly, the focaccia was more like toasted pita and not worth ordering. The croquettes were fine so nothing to rave nor complain about. Overall, the food was underwhelming though the atmosphere was pleasant. Our waiter was running the show on his own extremely well so I cannot praise him enough, although I do believe his skills would be put to better use in another restaurant where people actually enjoy the food. Ordered “French toast with caramelised bananas, whipped berry cream cheese and chocolate soil” and I was so excited. When it came out I was so disappointed! There were some fresh pieces of banana that were burnt on one side (this must be their attempt at caremelised), there were a few small pieces of chocolate which ended up being the highlight of the meal, even though it looked like 3 choc chips cut in half scattered on top. There was no whipped berry cream cheese, but there was a few chewy berries on top along with a LOT of pear which wasn’t listed on the menu. After I noticed how much was missing from the plate, I tried the toast which was the WORST PART. It was 3 soggy pieces of seeded, fruit bread. It was just like eating a mouthful of sultanas and seeds. I had a few bites but couldn’t stomach any more of this horrendous meal. My partner often orders the big breakfast which has always been great, but if you’re coming here please just stick with bacon and eggs, as their attempt at creating anything else will result in you paying way too much for inedible food. Always friendly staff , great service , I attempted to go for dinner (alone) on my birthday on Sunday 13th June 2021 , only to be told at the door that there was not a table or seat for me . When I expressed my disapointment at not being able to have a Birthday dinner (alone) , Andy asked to me to wait for a few minutues and rushed around and created a small table at the rear of the venue and then welcomed me in (alone) , where I enjoyed a lovely Chicken Parma and Sticky date pudding . As a regular client of Miss Carlise , I was so pleased to be accomodated and to not be sent away and have to go without a Birthday dinner (alone) !!! There is almost a "Cheers" style community that enjoy the atmosphere and hospitality of Miss Carlise and I for one am extremely grateful . So instead of having my Birthday dinner (alone) , I was made to feel a part of the family there . Getting older and feeling more dislocated from society recently , its so nice to feel considered and welcomed !!! Such a lovely group of staff and management...
