Two Brown Sugars Cafe (RedLeap Ave Entrance) — Restaurant in Melbourne

It was a warm day and inside the cafe was sweltering. I didn’t mind as I was doing takeaway (I would have sat in but there was nowhere to sit and it was too hot inside). The food took a while and the staff were pleasant enough. When I got to the car I realised the coffee cup had dust on it. When I got home to eat my focaccia, the avocado on it was completely black. I understand that black avocado is still edible. It doesn’t mean it should be served!

I thought instead of a google review I’d call to let them know, and provide feedback.

I told the young female staff member what happened over the phone. She then recounted it to someone else in earshot of the phone, and described who she thought it was. A male then came on the phone and was aggressive from the get-go. Firstly he asked me what I wanted and told me he’d give me a refund if I came back (not convenient or possible as I’d already gone home with my baby and it was a hot day). He told me he’d been a chef for 28 years and that the avocado was black because the sandwich had been heated up. He then told me the dust on the coffee lid was actually chocolate. Both were completely false and just an attempt to deflect. He then proceeded to tell me that I was ‘making up stories’ (direct quote). He also wouldn’t let me speak. He’s clearly used to talking over other people.

In order to get a word in I had to raise my voice and tried to tell him I wanted to simply provide feedback instead of a google review.

Im unsure why there are so many rave reviews about this place. Firstly, there’s far better cafes in the precinct. Secondly, the coffee and food is nothing special, especially for how long it took.

I am absolutely APPALLED by how I was treated over the phone by the owner. The condescension, blatant disrespect and utter rudeness was shocking. Also, great customer service (not) telling someone offering constructive feedback that they are making up stories. Anyway, if you’re considering coming here don’t be fooled by the good reviews. This experience made me never want to return to the Stables...

Today a group of women from the local Curves gym shared a breakfast at TWO BROWN SUGARS. We are daily coffee drinkers there and enjoy very good coffee served with a smile. For convenience sake we pre-ordered our breakfasts which were individually cooked either via a sandwich, focaccia or on a plate. Each one commented on well cooked and most enjoyable meal. There were 11 of us so we sat outside and left room for the smokers who are also regulars. We highly recommend this local cafe as a great place for coffee and an even better place for a lovely breakfast that is fresh, carefully cooked and nicely presented. Well done TWO BROWN SUGARS. BEST COFFEE EVER… We dropped by after Palm Sunday at church nearby… Blessed to a Free coffee and hot choco for my daughter. Guy said someone paid our coffee as an act of kindness to the next costumer. Isn’t that awesome? We were the next costumer! Also ordered Club house sandwich that was so good, so much flavor! Will definitely visit again next Sunday. Highly recommend to family...
