Vermont Thai — Restaurant in Melbourne

My parents organised a family get together there today. Before going I looked the reasturant up and noted a number of luke warm reviews so I didn't have any expectations. What a lovely suprise! The first thing that impressed was the friendly waitress. The meals come out in a timely manner and all the mains were delicious and in good proportions. The only dish lacking was the entree fish cakes. As there were eight adults and four children we dampled a great deal of what the menu offered. From my experiance today I suspect the not so great reviews came from reviewers that expected something that this place isn't. My friend and I had a most enjoyable meal. The waitress was very friendly, personable and eager to assist. She ensured our dietary restrictions were taken into consideration. The serves were more than enough. The serving size of vegetarian rice dish in particular was to feed three or at two very hungry adults. The Pad Thai with chicken was delicious and the serve was sufficiently generous. The meals and drinks were well priced. We paid around $42 for one entree, two mains and one beverage. Given that the restaurant had just opened for the evening, we were the only two dining at the time, so the ambiance was extremely subdued. Really poor customer service now. It is 32degC outside now, the restaurant waitress didn’t turn on the air con, it’s too warm inside and I asked her “can you please turn on the air con?”, she said the air con was leaking (condensate) and she turned it off, and will turn it on later, but we have been sitting there, I asked her can the air con be turned on or not, are you going to turn it on now? She said “can turn on, but not yet…” and left us four sitting in the hot room, so ridiculous!!! Before COVID we had a few pleasant meals here, but now, the staff has been changed, the menu has been changed, the customer service has collapsed!!
