Waltzing Matilda Hotel — Restaurant in Melbourne

The meals were of an unacceptable quality so I sent it back to the kitchen. It was then returned to me (UNCHANGED) with the waitress apologetic stating the chef said "it is what it is."

I emailed management, who replied with a generic email but never bothered to follow up with a phone call. I ordered the salt and pepper calamari with chips only, my wife had a parma and the kids a bowl of chips with gravy and a snitzel with chips. The meals came out pretty quickly but when I saw my meal I was disappointed firstly because there was salad on the dish (that I had asked for NO salad),but also the size of the overall meal. There were only a few small pieces of calamari and a hand full of chips. I looked at the other meals and noticed the quality of the chips on the snitzel. They were overcooked, and most were the crispy hard pieces you sometimes get a couple of on a dish which is usually fine but almost all of them were like that. I said to my wife I should take these back but she said don’t worry the kids are hungry and they’ve already started eating it. I still approached the two young girls working behind the bar with my calamari. On presenting the dish they totally agreed and sent one girl to speak with the chef as she was “better at that sort of thing” as the other girl pointed out. She came back very apologetic with the EXACT, UNCHANGED meal stating that the chef said “it is was it is”. How dare they send a meal back as is when I clearly asked for chips only. The girls working behind the bar were really polite and courteous and they should be acknowledged for the way they dealt with the issue. My parents eat at the bistro most weeks and weren’t impressed with the service given and I wouldn’t be surprised if they eat elsewhere in...

7pm on a Sunday, place has us and one other table. Half of the menu isn't available. I must say the menu is extremely limited. It has about 8 mains on it and that's it. My order had to be refunded because the website wasn't up to date with what's available. Meaning their limited menu with a huge list of unavailable items was further restricting.

Just don't bother. This place is absolutely the worse. Years ago it was great and a busy place when you came for dinner. Now it's horrible, no service or staff and the food options are atrocious.

Ordered lamb mixed grill and a king Parma. They sent out a standard Parma, chips and salad. No coleslaw. No add-ons for the king Parma.

The mixed grill came with the wrong gravy. No tzatziki sauce for a lamb mixed grill? When asked they were all out! Ha. Imagine that. They brought out a "mushroom gravy" that was actually a red wine gravy with 3 mushrooms thrown in it. You could taste the wine in the gravy. It was not a mushroom gravy.

At least they didn't screw up the kids meals.

6-7:30pm on a Friday and its the quietest I've ever seen it. 7 tables out of the entire restaurant filled. Clearly shows how far this place...

We only went for dinner so can't review anything else. Haven't been for a few years and was in the area so thought we'd give it a try. The gentleman that showed us to our table was very welcoming and polite. Explained thoroughly and was very accommodating. The lady at the bar was so delightful and such a good barmaid. The waitress was very lovely too. The chef was excellent we had the seafood platter, all elements were hot, crunchy and well cooked. Very fresh tasty prawns and mussels. Great flavour. Bf loved it. I had the nasi goreng and it was so filling and tasty. Plenty of chicken and plenty of prawns. We enjoyed our visit here with our son, the playroom is big and fun. Maybe another arcade game or two would fill the space up and a warm bucket of disinfectant to the upper areas of the play equipment but we had a great time. I really wish these young people all the best in their career choices whether they choose hospitality or not, the way they conducted themselves so professionally will carry on through their life. Now who is going to deep clean...
