Waterdale Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Melbourne

If you want a sure thing, their Burger with the lot is always really yummy, tastes like this one fish&chip shop years ago used to make, so never did I think I'd find somewhere that made another burger as delicious as there...but here it is at Waterdale Fish&Chips! Burger with the to lot on it's own is approx $8 iirc, and I believe they also offer it with chips and a can of drink, which is a few dollars more. (Maybe $12)*

Their chips are usually thick and tasty, although like most fish&chip shops you will occasionally get a batch that's been cooked for a few seconds too long, but that's pretty rare. Plus I'm one of those people who like their chips to be just cooked, with no crunch, so what is "slightly overcooked" to me might be perfectly cooked for someone else.

I also recommend their Kids Pack, (Is actually is decent meal for an adult, It's left me with a full stomach quite a few times) it's priced at approx $6.80, and it has a small piece of fish, a handful or two of chips, one dimsim (choice of fried or steamed), and a potato cake (although sometimes they'll do 3 small potato cakes instead of 1 large one), which are usually golden and delicious, but you'll occasionally get one that's a bit too thick, so the potato in the middle isn't cooked to that soft fluffy state, but it's still cooked properly and tastes the same, so it isn't a real issue, and again, this is a rare occurrence. This plus the occasional 3 small instead of 1 large one also give me the impression that they actually may make the potato cakes themselves, which if true is a definite plus (vs just ordering in mass produced frozen ones).

I've also had the Mars Bar in batter once, seemed to be correctly made and cooked, and was of course delicious! Approx $3.50 iirc.*

Everything I've eaten from here has been of good quality, but I haven't explored the menu much further than just described. The reason for that is the fact that what I have had has been so good, and well priced, that I've kept ordering the same things! Going by what I have eaten though, I'm confident in saying that the rest of their menu would most likely be of good quality too. 🙂

OTHER INFO: -Staff are friendly and efficient, and the shop is neat, tidy and clean. -There is no dine-in seating, but with current social distancing there's seating for maybe 3 people to sit and wait to collect their food, but without restrictions usually would seat maybe 6 or 7. -Good selection of drinks (two large double door drink fridges), and food is usually ready in a good amount of time. You are welcome to order ahead by phone to reduce your wait time. -CASH ONLY, they do not currently have credit/debit card facilities, so make sure you bring cash to avoid embarrassment/disappointment. -High-touch areas are regularly sanitized.

Both myself and my husband have eaten twice from this Fish & Chip shop.and both times we absolutely enjoyed it. The first time we had Fish and Chips which was very nice and the second time being today we had the Hamburger. Simply amazing. My husband who previously was a Executive Chef working in 5 star hotels who has won many awards for his cuisine even said today that was the nicest hamburger he has eaten in a very long time. Even the fish and chips he said was to perfection for which he was impressed. My husband is retired from the kitchens due to him having terminal cancer but for him to say it was sensational really means something because he would never compliment food unless it was good so thankyou for making such great food that both myself and my husband can only say is 10/10. Great food - some of the best fish and chips.

We come and order from you guys when we visit our grandparents in Heidelberg. I've tried a few fish and chip shops local, and by far, Waterdale Rd Fish and Chips surpasses them all in quality.

Only issue is that sometimes the chips are gross, that usually comes down to the oil needing to be changed more frequently. Watch the colour of the chips, as this will determine the oil quality.

However, their food is usually always great. Their flakes, burgers, calamari, etc, has always been on-point.
