WATSONIA CHARCOAL CHICKEN — Restaurant in Melbourne

Popped into this cute little shop while in the area. First thing you notice is it's super presentable, clean & modern... Then salad bar is gorgeous 😍 they look amazing. Lovely outdoor seating area out the front that would be lovely to sit and eat on a nice sunny day. The owner was lovely had a great chat with him while he cooked our food. I could see in the back the potato bake being cooked from scratch.. you can see there is love in there food. As someone who works in fish & chips myself, I always put love into the food I prepare. I believe it's very important! We also eat with our eyes so if something looks good. Its more likely to taste good.

Chips were perfectly seasoned. We really enjoyed them and the gravy was good too.. no complaints from my family ! And they are a fussy bunch lol.

Only bit of advice I would offer that we recently changed in our shop also is swapping from plastic bags to paper so the chips don't sweat. Personally I like my chips soggy but know alot don't. Or if someone asks for crispy chips use a uber eats bag. The paper bags do cost alot more than plastic.

Overall 5 stars isn't enough for this gem of a shop. Support your local small businesses! Don't go to Red rooster , KFC or Macca's.... Go local and help support a family. Not a corporation!

great little store. got a schnitzel burger from here tonight after a hard day of work - hit the spot perfectly, and it was huge! perfect amount of ingredients and arranged perfectly too. I am very picky about schnitzel burgers (because so many places get them wrong! idk how) - and this placed absolutely nailed it.

the owner was very friendly and conversational - asked me about my day, where I am from etc. - and gave me a small container of their fried rice, scalloped potatoes and some roast veg for free - absolutely delicious, all of them. he did this without my asking or prompting - because he clearly values excellent customer service.

highly recommend this place. the service, food and overall vibe in the shop impressed me greatly. will be making detours to come past here for food whenever I am...

Finally, charcoal chicken that is juicy and perfectly cooked. Gluten free option and 48hour marinated chicken to choose from. Salad selection is amazing, fresh, and absolutely worth adding to the meal. (See the picture) Forget Woollies and Coles chicken and drop here on the way home for a great healthy treat.

Update: Tried a few new dishes, including the Cauliflower and potato "mash" with cheese. My kids devoured the potatoes so I only got to taste a small portion and understand why they lovedf it. The cauliflower is equally as good. There are now some tables outside if you want to stop to eat there. It's a little exposed, so I hope they put in umbrellas for the sunny days ahead.
