Visited here on a Tuesday night a couple of weeks ago for a birthday dinner with friends. We've ben to Waves a few times and this place is always lovely with views over Pt. Phillip bay but when the sun sets, it can be quite glary looking out through the windows. Initial service was slow with only 3 of 6 of the party arriving on-time (6.15pm) to a restaurant which wasn't half full. The first 3 people to arrive sat for close to 10 minutes without being offered drink service. After the rest of the party arrived it took around 15 minutes for the wait staff to take meal orders. On the whole the food was lovely and well presented, however one of the meals was completely wrong. A Chicken Parmigiana I ordered was replaced with the barramundi provided for no apparent reason. When the waitress made her first attempt to deliver the meal it was refused as not ordered by anyone at this table. After all 5 meals of the other meals were delivered with only the Barramundi left, the waitress gave the option of having the Chicken Parma made fresh (whilst the rest of the table had their meals). I refused, advising I preferred to eat with friends rather than wait. Although the fish was nice (no it didn't taste like chicken😁) and the waitress offered a free drink by way of apology for the mix up, when the bill came I was charged $38 for the Barramundi instead of the Chicken Parmigiana @ $29. Not really a free drink then, eh! I guess the moral of the story is, when your waitress takes your order, have her read it back to you as this certainly didn't happen on my visit. I'd definitely visit Waves on the Beach again, but I'd check the order before the...
Read moreWe went there for lunch with an old friend who lives in the area. I have to say the service was very, very s-l-o-w. No urgency about anything. Almost an hour for our meal to be delivered to the table. Pretty ordinary.
People who arrived after us received their meals before us? How does that work?
My partner ordered the prawn cocktail and the prawns were so flavourless because they had been washed in fresh water so none of those tasty prawn juices were left.
I had the Jambalaya which had been baked in an oven (this is one method for the recipe) however it had been baked to the point the scallops were stuck to the pan, the mussels were chewy and the prawns tasted the same as the prawn cocktail and were flavourless. The rice was caked to the pan and pretty well inedible.
It could be a great dining experience due to the views and location however this place is an absolute shocker food wise. But the thing is, I don't think they have a true understanding what a quality product looks like.
Having a regular clientele accepting such below par food means you don't have to lift your game to a higher standard. So in effect you are pushing out the same stuff to a regular crowd. Hence the high scores in...
Read moreA solid menu selection from which to choose and all the dishes we ordered were generous in proportion and very tasty. This restaurant is only let down by the wait staff who appear disorganised and poorly trained. We dined in a group of four and only three dishes arrived to the table with a substantial delay for the fourth. This meant the first three plates were cold by the time our fourth received their meal. Despite ordering four drinks, they arrived singularly- one at a time yet by the same wait staff. Following our meal three of our empty plates sat on the table for the remainder of the day. Not once were we prompted to view or were offered a dessert menu nor coffee. After a substantial wait we simply paid and left. To add insult to injury this restaurant tops off your bill with a 5% surcharge for choosing to dine on a Saturday. One would imagine that as weekends are the most popular dining days this charge could simply have been weaved into the pricing?
In summary: amazing position on the Frankston coastline with equally impressive modern Australian cuisine on offer. Substantial value for money meals however, service lacks...
