Built in 1857, and extended in 1864, the Frankston Pier has long been the focal point of the beachfront as it juts out into Port Phillip Bay. Considering its local significance, both historically and emotionally, any artwork built into its form had to be done with intelligence, finesse and great sensitivity. The successful result has been Sight Line by Louise Lavarack. This interactive and engaging installation features a ‘kinetic lighting display and responds via acoustic sensors to the movement of the water beneath the pier, and wind vanes that sensitivity adjust to shifts in wind direction’ (Louise Lavarack, 2008). Directly referencing the pier supports, each pole in Sight Line is surmounted by a semaphore flag which together spell out a...

Had some fun here catching small fish with the wife but now there are groups of people that take over the pier fishing and do their best to irritate and work you off so they can take your spot to fish, casting over your lines and move closer and closer to the point of invading your personal space that made even myself uncomfortable. They so obnoxious they would come and cast and place rods in the spot your trying to pack up even if there is no space yet.

SO if you just want to come here for a walk and enjoy the view you might enjoy it, fishing on the other hand not so much.

Overall VERY busy spot when it is good weather, don't expect to find parking anywhere close. Better chance taking a taxi, uber or ride your bicycle if you wanna...

Frankston Pier is a delightful spot for a leisurely walk, offering picturesque views of Port Phillip Bay. The 220-meter-long pier provides a tranquil setting, especially during sunrise or sunset, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

The surrounding area is well-maintained, featuring clean beaches, a children's playground, and nearby amenities like cafes and restrooms. It's an ideal location for families, couples, or solo visitors looking to relax and enjoy the coastal atmosphere.

Whether you're interested in fishing, photography, or simply soaking in the sea breeze, Frankston Pier offers a peaceful escape from the hustle. Highly recommended for a refreshing...

Visiting for the 4th or 5th time. This time it was a rainy day and the sea was choppy but still the pier has its charm. Not crowded due to the weather I guess and still some people braving the rain and wind. Some people are fishing and others doing their excersies in the walk way. Could see some birds and so that was a highlight. Maximum parking of 4 hours but you could find some free parking near by. Plenty of rest rooms near the information centre plus in the childtens park.

On a beautiful day there is no where better to watch the sun set than on the Frankston Pier, with well maintained boardwalk, friendly locals greeting you you with a smile and gidday, surrounded by the most amazing beach, with a kids playground and food venues within a 2-3 minute walk. Get down and take a look for yourself 🤙 Maximum parking of 4 hours but you could find some free parking near by. Plenty of rest rooms near the information centre plus in the childtens park
