This afternoon my husband and I being a local, thought I would support a small local business in YG. We walked up to Yarra Glen Ice Creamery in Bell St, it was quite with a couple of people sitting at a table and only a 1 young staff member who greeted us and was polite. We ordered 2 x double scooped ice creams She had made up the first ice cream, when a older man walked in came around to the counter and questioned the young girl about a milkshake she should be making and ordered her to do so and took over to complete our order. Coming in from out side he did not even wash his hands or sanitise which I thought was extremely unprofessional for a business during covid, just took over. He took so long to scoop 2 scoops of ice cream on a cone and handed it to me, I looked at my husband in disgrace as it was half the size as his. He then took forever to use the till and my husband just tapped the card and we left. I asked my how much for the ice cream he said $8.50 each for a 2 scoop, I said no way mine is half the size of yours and yours is a normal size. I went back into the shop in discuss and the man totally ignored me, while another customer looked at my ice cream and laughed saying did I order the kids ice cream. Finally he served me, and I asked for a refund, I wasn’t going to pay for his ridiculous high price for what I was given. He was rude and refused, I had repeated my request and he said very loud “ No I’m not going to” Customers just looked at me. He took the ice cream out of my hand and added more and was saying, that the girl who served us had put far to much ice cream on the the first cone. He had even said that he pays $60 for that tub of ice cream. I was in complete shock at his behaviour and so called customer service. The ice cream was not even worth raving about, instead a waste of time. So I would be recommending The Yarra Valley Ice Creamery and Chocolate Factory to all my neighbours, friends and work colleagues for quality and great customer service...
Read moreDespite the big sign on the front that says ‘Ice Creamery’, it seems like more of a cafe with a small fridge offering a handful of ice creams. Upon entering the ‘cafe’ there were two gentlemen standing around behind the counter chit chatting, even after they’d seen us walk in they continued chatting to each other. I politely tried to get some attention, unfortunately that didn’t work. Eventually we were served however the portion size of their two scoops of ice cream certainly did not match the hefty price they charged. Extremely disappointing to say the least.
**Edit. Thank you for your response. That’s great to hear that you’ve got 16 flavours. It’s a shame they weren’t all available during our visit. Further, to clarify, your pricing is not the concern here, it’s that the quantity served does not match what you’re charging. I’d be more than happy to pay your prices if, for example, the quantity matched that of a very well known award-winning ice creamery up the road from you (whom by the way, are far more generous with their two-scoop serving and only charge $6.80). Food for thought. I’ll...
Read moreMy wife and I walk in for some ice cream, and I notice the proprietor's colourful shirt - it reminded me of Doctor Karl. She gets the Panna Cotta Cherry, and then it's my turn. I ask him "do you do doubles?", which is a bit of a silly question at an ice creamery in hindsight, and the man looks at me with laughing eyes and says, "Do I do doubles?!" 😂
We both loved our ice creams (I got the Panna Cotta Cherry and a scoop of a burnt caramel swirl on top) and as we headed home, I commented to my wife how good it was to walk into a small shop run by someone who's very good at what they do, get a great product and get back to enjoying your day, a big contrast from the last place we'd gotten ice cream where we had to park in a spot 100m away and stand in line for a less personal service. Definitely my favourite ice cream shop within an hour of...
