On holiday from NZ, we visited on New Year’s Day. Booked online, needn’t have bothered because the place was empty. One other diner and some takeout pickups.
Atmosphere/vibe… Outside - some parking, under trees. A courtyard garden with nice water features bubbling away, garden a bit overgrown and seating area had litter of bottle caps and corks etc. so expect casual atmosphere. Inside was really strange, a big box of a dining area which would be a challenge during busy times for anyone with hearing difficulties. Recommend sitting outside, the atmosphere was much nicer though garden a bit overgrown. Bathrooms need some TLC - toilet roll holders, a good clean.. not the worst I’ve seen and generally in keeping with the rest of the place.
Food - our dishes were great. We ordered the chefs special lamb chops (pictured) to share, which were tender and succulent. Lovely flavour. They come on a sizzling hot plate - we haven’t had lamb like this before and both enjoyed every bite. Highly recommend that dish! Dad had a lamb curry which was lovely, beautiful depth of flavour and meat, not chewy. I had prawns in (essentially) the butter chicken type sauce. I should have ordered something else - the sauce was nice so if you are a butter chicken fan I expect you would love that dish. With prawns though, they were chewy in the dish. If they had been cooked in the tandoor and then topped with sauce maybe they would have been better. I put this down to my poor choice, and am confident the rest of the menu has lots of great options. We also ordered poppadums (at home these usually come free, as does plain rice with any curry dish), rice, and cheese naan. The rice was lovely and tender, the naan was possibly the best I have ever had! Fluffy and light, crisp edges, beautiful.
Service was ok, appreciated the table being wiped for us to sit and the server was polite. Things like fresh napkins with the fresh cutlery and plate after entree would be good, and remembering to clear away finished items like empty baskets with each trip. The drinks menu is basic, cocktail was a bit light for the price. Ordered a double rum and coke next and it made up for it! Bar tender attentive. Overall price seemed on the high side, even accounting for holiday surcharge, but we are foreign so may have the wrong expectation there. Check the menu online first if this is a concern.
This isn’t the place to expect a fancy dinner, but you will be treated kindly, respectfully, and the food is very good. I’d certainly put this in my favourites for takeout if I lived...
Read moreMy recent visit to Delicacy of India left me feeling underwhelmed, and I feel compelled to share my candid thoughts about the experience.
The foremost issue was the extensive wait for our food. Despite arriving with a reasonable appetite, the prolonged delay tested our patience. Unfortunately, the anticipation didn't translate into satisfaction upon tasting the dishes.
The first letdown came in the form of the naan bread. A staple of Indian cuisine, the naan should boast a delicate balance of softness and crispness, accompanied by a subtle flavor profile. Regrettably, the naan served fell short on all fronts. It lacked the customary texture, appearing rather limp and undercooked. Moreover, its flavor failed to impress, leaving a bland aftertaste that was far from satisfying.
Moving on to the main course, I ordered the malai kofta, hoping for a flavorful experience. However, what arrived at our table was disappointing. Instead of the anticipated creamy texture and aromatic spices, the dish resembled aloo kofta in a sugary tomato curry. The overwhelming sweetness masked any potential flavors, making it difficult to discern the distinct tastes of the dish.
In summary, my dining experience at the restaurant was far from satisfactory. The extended wait for food, coupled with the subpar quality of the dishes, overshadowed any positives. As someone who enjoys a good meal without any extravagant expectations, I left the restaurant feeling let down and dissatisfied.
I hope this review provides constructive feedback, urging them to reevaluate their culinary offerings and strive for improvement in both taste and service. Every dining experience should be enjoyable, and unfortunately, my visit fell short of this...
Read moreMight’ve just been an understaffed night but guests could've been advised there would be a wait on the food prior to being seated. First time here, read the reviews and booked a table for 3 at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. Arrived and there's about 25 other people seated in the venue. Had to ask for menus from wait staff, only 2 staff serving food/taking orders on the floor.
Didn't get orders taken until about 7pm, same for the 2 other people that arrived when we did. Unfortunately, mains took almost 1hr to arrive (4 mains). Staff only came to take entree plates off our table. Service was quite slow - I understand quality food takes time, but when you've got 3 tables who have not received their food and are are waiting 40+ mins, how can one be satisfied?
The younger girl (with the long hair) who brought our mains out wasn't friendly, very dull voice, and no apology for the long wait, just food placed on our table and walked off. Roti was cold, burnt and bland. Beef biryani was so dry, curries (lentil dahl, aloo gobi, chicken masala) was pleasant so have given stars for that. Male staff member approached our table at the end to apologise for the wait on food and offered us a dessert. This place has potential to be very nice but the service on our visit was very poor and has...
