The first place we tried since coming to Moruya for a little holiday. We didn't book but they were kind enough to fit us in. The atmosphere was quite noisy even though there was only 1 other family of 4. The garlic bread came out and we thought it was a little salty but nice enough. There was quite a bit of time left between the starters and the mains coming out.
The Seafood Marinara came out. Quite a large portion. Two of the prawns were fresh the rest were probably from a frozen packet. Mussels possibly from a tin. Overall, it was extremely salty that pasta was left.
Next was a Family sized vegetarian pizza. The base of the middle of the pizza was undercooked and floppy. The parts of the base that was cooked were nice and fluffy and crispy crust. Once again, the sauce was just too salty. When asked for the remaining pizza to be put in a takeaway box, the pieces were stacked on top of each other in a tiny box.
Overall, everything was extremely and unnecessarily salty. The atmosphere was loud and the takeaway for the remaining food was disgustingly packed. If they didn't want to do it for us, they should have just given us the box to do it ourselves. For the money that we paid and not enjoying it, it was very disappointing.
2 stars (and that's...
Read moreAfter reading the glowing reviews (and one not-so-glowing), and loving Italian food we stopped in for dinner last Friday. The garlic bread appetiser was a measly half roll, slathered in a strange-tasting garlic butter/oil. Not a great start. Amongst the food we ordered were the two house specialties. The House Special pizza was almost inedible, being smothered in anchovies to the extent that it was like eating a salt lick. We also had the Moruya Special Penne Pasta. It was served with packet Parmesan, and looked like Penne with brown goo. Almost no chicken and very little mushroom, it was almost without taste. The menu selection was ordinary, so based on our experience, we won't be returning. Either Sam and Anna had a bad day, or they need to lift their game....
Read moreExcellent pizza! But are you deciding between the 3 pizza venues?
Crust: classic thickness with excellent chewy texture. If you're after woodfired thin & crunchy, go to Moruya Woodfired (but you'll pay more) Quality of toppings: very good - similar to Moruya Woodfired Volume of topping & cheese: the best in town for getting more food in each pizza. If you like a more traditional style with less on each slice, you're better off with Moruya Woodfired. I personally prefer Church st.
If you want a huge amount of really good food for great value, Church st is your place. If you are more interested in an excellent base and a thinner slice, I'd be heading to Woodfired. Black Olive clearly trailed on all fronts...
