The Grocery Store Cafe is the place!

The staff actually made eye contact and pleasant small talk with me, the bacon was “locally sourced” and actually tasted like it (unlike similarly labelled product I’ve had in other places), and the hot breakfast was served on a heated plate so the food didn’t immediately become cold.

These small touches: friendly and engaged staff, true good quality food, and the heated plate made for a lovely breakfast!

Oh, did I mention the price was reasonable too, and not only that, the coffee was fantastic!

The decor is perfect - authentic retro feel without stooping to the pretentiousness and self-important vibe that many cafes indulge in (in vain attempts to justify their aloof service and ridiculous prices).

What can we say, absolutely great breakfast. From good olde big breaks to custom sides and combinations - all the produce is excellent and as local as they can get - very fast service. The response to a minor error (for an allergen eater) was perfect and resulted in a fast full re-do of the breakfast. Would post photos but everyone tucked in so quickly it was gone before camera could be gotten out. Keto, GF, eat anything people all serviced with a smile. Edit. Jan 2020. Things appear to have changed a bit (new owners?). Not quite the bastion of great coffee and food that it was (stale scones). If nothing else catches your fancy then come here, but I’d say three-four stars now, not five.
