Surfbeach Cafe Narooma — Restaurant in Narooma

As a disclaimer, I’d like to note, that they were due to close for the season the next day...so to a degree, you can make allowances...so that it why I gave 2 instead of 1 star.

Sunday of the long weekend, only 50 mins into their lunch service, we order 3 serves of grilled fish and chips. They were out of fish. They were also out of practically everything they had on the menu except for salt and pepper squid, and BLTs....plus whatever snacks were left in the display.

Not thrilled...especially because they could have popped up perhaps a ‘limited menu’ sign or something, but then we waited 1/2 hour for our 3 serves of salt and pepper squid.

People walked away whilst we were waiting after finding out what limited options they had...one family even asked where they could get good fish and chips for dinner....so he could take them there for lunch instead. I wish we had left too. Although the squid was as tender as anything, there was no hint of salt and pepper about it. It was so poorly seasoned...I was really disappointed in it. They must have better days, because people were coming by to say thank you, and wishing them well on their break...but we were left so disappointed that we won’t be going back. Doing the simple things well gets people back...if you can’t manage...

We went to this Cafe due to the positive reviews and boy what a disappointment. I mean, food was outrageously expensive and bad. The mushrooms tasted rancid oil and probably it was since my husband and I felt unwell soon after. My meal had feta but what was served was a tiny spoon of scrambled feta that tasted old. I complained to the manager who condescendingly called me darling. We had a child, literally a child bringing the food to us. When asked for the cutlery he pointed me to a table where I had to go a take it myself and same for menu. Awful customer service, expensive and the view is to a parking lot, NOT the beach. Unless we were super unlucky, I am surprised by the positive reviews. They need proper management and competition. Please don't go to this place,...

Dropped in for a coffee while staying at Narooma on our way through on Holidays - great coffee, and based on the owners humorous replies to a very few negative reviews, we decided to have breaky there the following day - great bacon and eggs, my poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Friendly service, with views of the ocean rolling in - all round well worth it and highly recommended.

And Fergus - mate - I don’t usually comment on others reviews but maybe ordering a Thai Salad when your Wife is Gluten Intolerant isn’t a Mensa level choice given they pretty much all have noodles in them. Your review (and the owners brilliant response) is what led us to actually go and have a meal there - which was great by the way.
