THE Outback Shack Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Narrabri

Came here few years ago and was looking forward to visiting again. But pokes have replaced majority of the restaurant, no indoor rain, no indoor river, no storm noises or outback sounds, no atmosphere, not even music it was dead silence. Just ppl eating. Couldn’t even hear the pokies going in the next room. very limited menu, completely different to that the website says or shows. Menu/food doesn’t match menu on their own website, cut it down to mostly buffet. No one to welcome you or to explain how anything works. Just a hand written sign saying ‘find a table and order at the counter’. We even booked and had to find the reserve sign and name ourselves. When asked how it all worked was told it’s ‘self explanatory it’s a buffet’. Staff don’t appear to want to be working there, bored expression and dead eyes in most. Very disappointing and just overall sad. Even the signs for the place are misleading as it takes you to emergency exit ramps and the sign inside pokes in the door to the pokies…. Not good when the kids are following the arrows… We didn’t stay. We walked out, to find...

Decor: Stylised outback shed. Wooden floors, farm equipment scattered about, heritage items displayed and artificial thunderstorm every 30 minutes (if working - which it wasn't when we visited☹️) Staff: Welcoming, friendly, helpful. COVID entry regulations were enforced with a smile. Acoustics: Good, easy to carry on a conversation despite it being over half full. Service: Quick and efficient, 18 minutes from ordering to receiving our food. Menu: Typical RSL club - steak, salads, fish, parmi's etc, but with some variations. Prices: A little higher than I expected for a country RSL club, but not dramatically so. Still good value for money. Food: Good. We had the Chicken Caesar salad and the Chicken, Bacon and Garlic Prawn stack. Both were tasty, with flavoursome sauces and crispy bacon. We enjoyed both. Recommended, we'll be back next time we...

This would be hands down the worst meal I’ve ever eaten in my time, had the hole family order dinner, 12 meals in total. Not one meal could have anything good said about it, steaks were cremated when asked for medium. I asked for the ribs which had been boiled with zero marinade jus a squirt of BBQ sauce at the end, handful of chips no veg. Well worth the $33 (not). Can’t say one thing good about the meals which also I might add don’t get any dearer anywhere. Old pub in the bush would have been better an half the price I’m sure. Won’t ever be back sorry ,...
