If your in Kincumber and you're hungry. It's hard to go wrong with Anthony's Seafood & Burgers. Food was good, not fancy but the burgers were quite big. Coming from the Big city we were expecting much smaller portions for the price we payed. I had the schnitzel burger and it was well balanced, some schnitzel burgers can be really dry but this one wasn't, however it could have been taken to the next level with a thicker Schnitzel.
Plus the secret chip phrase that I was told really worked. If you go up to the counter and say "I like my chips cut straight" then wink with your left eye you may receive free chips with your meal.
The staff were very friendly. We had the privilege of meeting Anthony himself. He took our order and even brought our fish cocktails out to our table. What a genuine legend!
I had a crumbed prawn cutlet with my meal also. I think a Prawn Cutlet is a good indicator of the quality of a fish and chip shop. Just on the prawn cutlet front I would give it a 4/5. Not the best I've had but really great!
Unfortunately I did not attempt to use my Hamish and Andy loyalty card so I can't confirm as to weather they are having teething issues, but from knowing Anthony for so long I would assume...
Read moreNot the worst . ........The key to a good fish n Chips shop is not only the produce , but how it's cooked. You can be the best chef or Cook in the world but it won't help if You don't use fresh oil. So in part From the start (unless grilled) the battered fish and chips never stood a chance. It's a shame really as service was great , friendly and knowledgeable . I wonder if any of their Fish or calamari is locally sourced, I would presume not or surely you would have it up in Lights. The home made Tartare was nice ,calamari tender not tough nor stringy. It's the damn oil , the oil suffocated the food , Please Change your oil ,and I promise I will be back. The potential is there for a great Fish shop. I do hope this review is taken in the right light, it's not easy running a fish shop and keeping motivated when a review like mine comes up, but I will give this Shop another go as I Love supporting...
Read moreFish I had was good , But as I had grilled fish, I'm guessing it made the difference. The fried fish and chips had a horrible taste of old fryer oil. There is nothing more off putting than oil that hasn't been changed as often as it needs changing. No excuse as its as obvious as the nose on your face when you walk in a kitchen that oil is off. Otherwise, portions were very generous, staff pleasant enough, nice location. Will be suggesting to management the need to change the oil and will try again in a week or two. Hopefully proprietor's will take these suggestions on board as this shop has beautiful fresh fish, nicely cooked with their chunky home style (not home made) , has the potential to top all others , but its spoiled by the oil....
