El Latte Lithgow — Restaurant in New South Wales

We saw the Highway Patrol parked outside the Cafe, and I said to my wife that if the local Police were there the food and coffee must be good. In fact, I stated that to the young officer when we entered. "Try the Eggs Benedict" he told me "the best I've eaten anywhere!". So...I ordered his suggestion, my wife settling on the "Smashed Avocado With Fetta"...and 2 Chai Lattes. The kitchen is open plan, so you can see your food being prepared, yet it's the "open plan" that causes the first issue. Entering, you walk up about a 3m ramp where, at the very top, is the ordering place...with tables behind you against the walls. When there's 4 ppl standing there in line to order you can't get inside, and the chilly winds whip over you every time someone enters. Poor layout.. Onto the food... My Eggs Beni arrived and the first thing I noticed was the massive puddle of Beni sauce, and a quick taste confirmed my suspicions it had been poured out of a carton... commercial taste (who can't make Beni Sauce????).! BUT...my Eggs...they had been "poached" in a metal cup (think Motel Eggs.. got it?)..hard boiled within a mm of their lives. I poured the Beni Sauce off to find my "toast" hadn't been browned, merely heated. My wifes "Smashed Avocado With Fetta and Poached Eggs" had a similar story. Two warm pieces of sound ought, a smear of Avocado With the most minimal amount of Fetta I've ever seen! Her Eggs, like mine, were hard boiled... It looked worse than pub grub and tasted no different.. very ordinary. Therein lays my tale...and I can't see they would make changes. If you can't make Beni Sauce, toast bread or poach a freaking egg then go back to ditch digging with...

Honestly, one of the worst meals we have had in a long time. This is the second time we have had breakfast here and will unfortunately be the last....the first time wasn't terrible - which is why we came back! My husband ordered the avo smash - sourdough, poached eggs, avo and feta - where was the feta? There was about 1/4 tspn of feta ...not ok and insulting for the price it is. Feta is part of the menu description - where is it? Presentation was very poor. As a chef, I would be mortified if this left my kitchen. Mine was sourdough, avo and relish. I'm not sure what school this chef went to, but relish is always served on the side - and I wish it was. It was terrible. It tasted like cheap tomato sauce. It made the entire meal inedible. Plus 1/2 a small avocado... 1 chai latte and one pot of tea All up, just over $40. Absolutely fair price for something edible. I left mine and your wait staff never bothered to ask why it wasn't eaten. She has obviously not been trained to ask why.

We don't leave bad reviews - it's not usually productive and not often fair. But from someone that has spent my life in hospitality, you need to know that these meals were very poor. I'm sorry that there was not even one redeeming product we paid for today - the taste, quality and presentation were equally as bad. AND everything was...

Absolutely disgusted with this place..travelling through lithgow and wanting something quick. Ordered simple burgers and drinks..drinks came straight away..30 minutes later still no food.. seen the chef eventually calls the girls over pointing to us and was eventually told the ticket machine had not worked and he didn't get our order..was not that busy and everyone else in the cafe had either eaten or got their meal. The staff was constantly walking past us and the chef was looking at us as well, So would you not think the staff would wonder why we were not eating!!!!! Was asked if we would like to wait for our meal or a refund..said we had to go so a refund.. They had the hide to charge us for our drinks!!! Not even complimentary after 40 minutes wait and no food and the price was so expensive. also asked for lactose free.. obviously it wasn't because I was sick as later that afternoon. 😠😠 There was also another woman already in there in a work uniform when we went in waiting for takeaway and yes after our 40 minute wait saw her walk out with 1 burger saying ring me when it's ready Wouldn't give them 1 star if I...
