Cuppa Joe Cafe — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

I highly recommend Cuppa Joe Cafe.

Service: The staff were very welcoming and polite. Quality: I ordered the avocado bruschetta which was delicious! All fresh produce and REAL smashed avo (I hate when you're given that tube stuff 🤦‍♀️) I also added a poached egg and it was cooked perfectly! (Which unfortunately seems rare sometimes). Location: Located right at one of the entrances to the shopping complex, makes it easy to find, and has the option of sitting either inside in the air con, or outside in the fresh air. Price: The menu itself is very reasonably priced, with the bruschetta only costing $9! However, with this in mind I was surprised that to add 1 poached egg cost $4.50 😐 I would expect that for 2 eggs, but for 1 I thought was excessive. Cleanliness: The cafe seemed very clean and well kept. Extra: Although I didn't purchase any myself, they have homemade jams available for purchase, and lots of yummy...

The food here is wonderful. I was surprise at the schnitzel on the menu, although small, it was very tasty. Like something you would crumb and cook at home. A real homely taste about it. I do find the chips are always a little cool but that would be my only criticism on the food. Their scones which I believe is Grandma's recipe are to die for! Grandma would be very proud, I tell you. Lemon meringue pie..omg, If i could put an F in the omg, I would lol. Yum! I do love this place but I do wish there were more smiles and happier staff... they always seem miserable for some reason. There's no friendly service at all. It's like they are very unhappy and it shows alot! Coffee is normally pretty amazing which says alot coming from me!! They really don’t get it!

I really didn’t want to come back here for one main reason: the indifferent (almost doesn’t give a f..) attitude of the coffee maker and the cold service he present to customers. But I said I will give them another chance just to see whether he changed. Guess what, not at all. I have an award-winning business and for me to see this consistently frustrates me a lot! What is it, do you hate your job that much? Don’t you understand customer service and the importance of a simple smile and greetings?

Anyway, not my problem anymore and I will never put my feet here again.

For others reading this, do yourself a favour and go elsewhere, Maitland has so many other cafés worthy...
