The Sea Shanty — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Decided to give the sea shanty a try today,after being tired of constantly let down by our local. To the point, absolutely 10/10 we got two burgers and two cocktail fish just as a starter point. Burgers - old fashioned take away burgers when you think about old school burgers that’s exactly what you get I had the world wife had the plain, you get that mad old bbq sauce fresh salads every bites flavoursome. Fish - Wow! Batter crunchy well cooked and not thick, looks and tastes like it’s all done in house fresh, the fish itself! Well it just melts in your mouth soft and flakey no dirty cod taste not overly salty, we are both super picky with seafood but can’t fault what we sampled today. We live in Cliftleigh so well out of our way but we will 100% be back.

Price was roughly $28 for everything which we also thought was great especially on a Sunday, we tried the other place up the road recently and you pay that for a single burger 🤷‍♂️

Staff were friendly enough all busy, young girl was nice and polite.

Unless we are miss in something I don’t know how this isn’t a minimum of 4.5 stars

How disgraceful, to the manager the short old lady with grey hair and glasses. How dare you ridicul and belittle me infront of customers over finding a long strand of dark hair in my food. First you tell me I didn't find a hair so I showed you. Then you ask me where I have been, the hair was wrapped in batter so obviously I did not put it there . Then you tell me no one has battered food today with dark hair while the gorl with dsrk hair was in the corner.Then you proceed to laugh about it? I will be contacting the food and health department in writing about this . A simple sorry would have been fine and a refund, but you had to escalate the issue by displaying arrogance . Who in there right mind laughs and belittles someone infront of customers. You are a absolute disgrace to the food industry and I feel sorry for the owners as YOU are impacting there business! To the owners. Feel free to check your cameras. How dare yous treat paying customer like this over finding...

Ours was a Thursday night-time order about 6pm. The place was SO busy. Consequently our order took at least 30 minutes to prepare. They were taking many “food app” orders on top of those waiting in store. Up to ten people waiting during our wait as a steady flow of traffic came and went. So, maybe it’s better to phone-in your order. We met a bloke who said that he was from Singleton and, that this was the best fish and chips for miles. They offered “packs”- so our order was fish , squid, prawns and chips. There is a big variation in quality fish and chips out there and Sea Shanty was good - not the best, not the worst.
