MEX Club - Mayfield Ex-Services Club — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

I’ve been here twice during the day now with an aim to entertain my kids with friends and have a coffee/food. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

I am hoping the club and cafe can make some simple changes to make it more family friendly during the day as it has the potential to be a hot spot for parents entertaining young kids, especially on a wet day.

We came here twice both on a rainy day (great to let the kids out and play in the equipment indoors)

The cafe is advertised as “always open” was closed (club opens at 10) When the cafe did open at 11 they were inundated with orders (a sign the cafe should open when the club does).

They do not have “family friendly” items available at the cafe. Only coffee and hot chocolate. That’s it. Very disappointing. I asked for a hot chocolate just cooled down for my 2 and 4 year old (ie add some extra milk) but was told they cannot. Would like to see variety and simple child friendly items such as babychino’s and milkshakes. The cake counter was empty. Lucky we had our own food and drink!

Lunch specials were advertised but for members only. One item was available to non members (a burger). There is no member and non member pricing like other clubs for the other items. Food is only available to members. Was happy to join but was not asked when I signed into the club and with two kids in the play area I was not in a position to go back to the front desk to sign up.

Play area is great and kids had a blast. But as a parent I think the club needs to get the cafe up to scratch to encourage...

What a refreshing positive change to this club, we visited this club on Thursday night 12/10/23 for dinner (2 pizzas for the price of 1 ) and we added a garden salad extra $8 and it was huge and actually had salad ingredients rather than just lettuce what a pleasant surprise , the young lady at the cashier who took our order was very pleasant and attentive , on arrival of our pizzas , (quite promptly I might add ) we were quite surprised to see large pizzas not babies and a huge salad the pizzas were well cooked and had uniquely tasty bases, 10/ 10 food, 10/10 pricing ,10/10 new venue, only a small criticism the venue is very kid friendly and has variouskid features all in different cnrs of the venue ( rather than all in one are) this led to excited very nosiy kids running nosily from play area to play area and ice cream bar and no matter were we sat we could not escape the screaming (why do parents allow kids to dream at the top of their voices today, when it is not an emergency???) suggest a bit of relocation or segregations as older folk can relax and eat and talk and maybe enjoy a dessert , coffee or a drink or two instead of eating and bolting to escape the noise ( we are not anti kids but parents don't care or discipline kids anymore and just let them run riot ) a few tactful message signs to keep kids in check , loved the place we will visit and...

Fantastic Family Fun, Great Value & Plenty to Do!

The Mayfield Ex-Service Club (Mex) is an absolute gem for mates and families and a really enjoyable spot to spend some time! The sports bar area is a major highlight, packed with an impressive array of action games. We had a blast with the basketball, air hockey, darts, pinball, and especially the pool tables – there's genuinely something to keep everyone entertained, from kids to adults.

It's truly commendable that they provide such easily accessible facilities for those with mobility impairments, including dedicated parking, ramps, accessible toilets, and a lift. This thoughtful design truly makes it a place where everyone in the family can feel welcome and enjoy themselves without any hassle.

When it came to the food, it was typical club food – straightforward and perfectly okay. I did find the meat a little on the dry side, but honestly, it wouldn't deter me from eating here again. They often have some excellent weekly food specials that offer even better value, which is always a pleasant surprise. What really stands out is the membership cost; it's incredibly cheap at just $5 for a year or an even better deal at $20 for five years.

This place offers superb value for money, a fun atmosphere, and a wide variety of activities.
