Mayfield Hotel — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

PATHETIC!!!! If I could have given them a minus I would have. We enquired on the 26/06/23 regarding holding an 18th birthday party to have to wait until the 3rd July for a reply via email. ( Numerous follow up calls were made in this time and we were always unable to get someone from the establishment to answer the phone) After making a tentative booking it took a week for them to reply with details we required. ( prices, meals, wristbands etc) to which we returned their email same day stating we were happy with pricing etc. We paid the deposit and the payment for security on the 06/09/23 which was approx 2.5 weeks before it was due and waited for confirmation. Once again numerous phone calls went unanswered. I’m not talking 1 or two calls here, I’m talking like 50-60 from the 6th September until the 22nd when we finally got someone to answer only to be informed they had no bookings for the 7th October. After many phone calls and emails back and forth where we showed receipt of deposits and where the tentative booking was originally made with the manager ( Cassey Jackson) and being told that the function manager was not working on the 7th, the mayfield hotel cancelled the party ( 2 weeks out from the date the party was to be held after invitations to guests had already been sent out and arrangements on our end made) and has yet to refund the money already paid ( quite a few hundred dollars). I’ve dealt with incompetent people in the past but this lot would have to be the worst. Little to no communication, confusion among staff members and aptitude is appalling. I suggest that anyone needing to book a function in the Mayfield area to stay away from the Mayfield Hotel. This is by far the worst experience I have ever encountered with function staff at any establishment. Bad form...

Extremely disappointing. My client wanted the salt n pepper squid that was on the online menu, only to find out that it had been taken off menu the day before but not changed online. After asking, they said they could do it with a side of vegetables, only for it to come out with some very sad vegetables and squid on lettuce for the same price as the previous menu item that came with chips as well. After stating this, staff gave my client some chips. My schnitzel was disappointing as well. The sauce for the seafood topping was very strong in wine and the beans still tasted frozen. Quite poor considering the cost of $26. The only good part of the meal was the chips, even though they were cold. Food was very lack luster and the service could do with improvement. Worst pub in the area. Staff are rude and often try to short change you, the poker machines all of a sudden stop accepting the newer style bank notes if you're not doing big bets, I know people who've given the staff their phones to charge behind the bar and they "go missing" and the decor is terrible. The security guard they have working late on fridays and saturdays legitimately looks like some malnourished homless guy they've dragged of the street and dressed in a security uniform. I'm seriously surprised this place is even still operating, given how dodgy the place is. The pub is what I imagine purgatory to be like after you die and you're waiting to go to either heaven or hell. Avoid at all costs. ...
