This is a two-pronged review.
Products - I would give 5 stars based on their products. They have the best sour dough, this Strawberry Watermelon Jam is one of the best Jams I've had and everything else from sausage rolls to their dessert tarts are great, even if it's a little on the pricey side.
Service - this is where I was disappointed today. I made an online order to pick-up an hour from when it was made. I thought this would mean my order would be ready for pick-up at the allocated time. I ended up waiting over 40 minutes for my order as a dozen others received their orders before me. They apologised for the wait and took ownership of this and I was then on my way. As I was driving I decided to pull over and check everything was there as I had several different items (which I never do as I always trust that my orders are correct). I then found my sourdough was missing . Luckily I hadn't driven too far away so I went back to collect this. They apologised again but there was no offer of compensation for the long wait and then for this second muck-up.
I'd say this is a one off case as everyone else was looked after and their staff are friendly - but my personal experience today with the service was not great, however the products, as usual, were great.
I absolutely recommend you try them and I hope you have a better experience than me when...
Read more(3.5 stars) Lamb and preserved lemon sausage rolls ($8.50/each) and all hot savouries had sold out before 12.30pm in sleepy suburban Maryville. While the Baked Uprising pastry counter still had some appeal, nearly everything was sweet rather than savoury. The potata bravas galette ($8.50) held promise, with its pastry laminated with Pepe Saya cultured butter, however with pumpkin in the mix it ate too sweet for my lunchtime hankering. It was also quite small, so I threw in a cardamom spice cake ($6.50) to fill out the corners, appreciating the cut-through of aromatic spice in the moist little cake.
House-made flavoured sodas ($5/glass) lured me in with sour cherry, but again for this sugar-jaded palate, it came up tasting too sweet. The back-street converted warehouse setting offers a view into the bakery, which employs over fifty staff. There are also shelves of take-home products to browse, running from pickles and jams to breakfast items like muesli and baked loaves, all the way to decorate-your-own pavlova shells. Care has also been taken to create some attractive spaces to sit down outside in sunny weather and enjoy a coffee and a...
Read moreI’ve been shopping at Harris Farm for a while now and kept noticing Uprising’s products… so a couple weeks ago I finally decided to visit the bakery itself. Since then, I’ve gone back repeatedly, and for the last three days in a row, I’ve made the trip just to stock up. I’ve tried their breadsticks, traditional and lamb meat pies, and today, their lemon sausage roll… everything has been beyond exceptional.
What sets Uprising apart is their confidence and transparency with ingredients. Their website clearly lists what they use… high quality, clean ingredients without seed oils, which is incredibly important to me. Most bakeries in Newcastle don’t even mention what’s in their products. Uprising does, and it shows in the taste and freshness of every item.
The coffee is excellent, too… smooth, well-balanced, and consistently good. Whether I’ve gone in the morning or early afternoon, everything, every single time has been fresh and clearly baked that day.
This bakery is 100% worth the trip. If you care about quality ingredients and real flavour, Uprising is the most proper bakery in...
