I came here with friends around 2 years ago, and it was very enjoyable. Back with the same friends today and not quite the same experience. I love Chinese food and I’m reluctant to bag a business, and overall I enjoyed my lunch but it was pretty average. We had dim sims, special fried rice, honey king pawns, bbq pork chow mein with crispy noodles, and I had the special combination. The steamed dim sims were great. Tasty pork with a thin skin. The fried dim sims were made the same, but seemed to be battered over the skin, which was quite tough. Tasty though, came with a sweet sauce on the side. The fried rice was fairly bland, and certainly was missing what would make it special. A few little prawns, pork and peas throughout, it was a bit clammy, not separate rice grains. Quite salty and a brown tinge, possibly soy. My special combination was a good flavour, but fairly small, though enough for one person. 2 prawns which were flavoursome, a few pieces of steak , chicken and possibly a couple of little scallops, but some very nice veggies in a slightly watery bit tasty sauce. The pork chow mein was bland, not the usual bbq hoisin flavour, on a thin bed of fried rice noodles, with broccol, carrot, celery, cauliflower. My friend enjoyed it with a splash of soy sauce. Again enough for one person. The honey prawns were described by my other friend as good and flavoursome. Eight good sized prawns in batter on a crispy noodle bed. The only criticism was the batter was too thick and doughy, but overall enjoyable. The kicker for me was the increase in price from their menus I looked at online before going. Even one menu which was said to be updated in 2024. Not the fault of Ming Terrace, but the prices had increased substantially, sign of the times I guess. So I don’t think I’ll be going back, but it wasn’t terrible. I hope others like it and don’t have my experience because I love a Chinese restaurant, and I hope they keep going. Review: Ming Terrace
Ming Terrace is a must-visit whenever I’m on the coast. This place offers a classic, old-school Chinese dining experience that leans into rich sauces on some of its standout dishes. The menu has all the well-loved classics along with some Chef specials, and the ingredients are fresh—veggies cooked to perfection with a satisfying crunch.
The staff here are attentive and friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. If you’re lucky enough to snag a window seat, you’ll get to take in some beautiful scenic views, especially around early evening. I believe they offer BYO wine, but it’s worth double-checking.
One tip: make sure to review your bill before paying. I was overcharged by $10, which I only noticed after I got home -very annoying. I’m not implying it was intentional, but it’s a good reminder to keep an eye on the tab.
Overall, Ming Terrace combines classic flavors, fresh ingredients, and friendly service, making it a favorite spot to return to on the coast - but make sure you...
Read moreWe went here during a brief stay in Ocean Grove, based on reviews we read. It was disappointing to eat from plastic crockery in a restaurant and it’s so brightly light with no atmosphere. When we went there were children shouting loudly which also didn’t enhance the place. Food- chicken chow mean was okay, chicken in oyster sauce came with beef slices, not requested. The chicken was the gristly lumpy kind I might feed my pets. I expected slices of chicken for the price. Satay skewers - only 2 served with very small pieces of chicken. Prawn crackers were stale. Steamed rice was okay. Drink prices were good. Staff were friendly. Overall we wouldn’t want to go back because we have had much better Chinese food elsewhere and I don’t want to eat from plastic bowls when I go out to dinner. When we left the waitresses were on their break directly outside the restaurant and were saying what an awful place to work it is. Hardly a great advert for...
