If you are looking for cheap backpacker hostel type accommodation then this is the place for you. Every room's door squeaks, floorboards creak and the amenities are over 50+ years old, everything is run down, dilapidated, dirty and just old. Then at night everyone decides to congregate outside to smoke so you don't get any sleep. | Ironically the meals are not cheap but the quality of the rooms are. Definitely not recommended for people looking for clean, modern spacious facilities. This place doesn't even have a lift so if you can't climb the stairs - good luck. It's one thing to own an old building in this day/age but it's another thing to leave the facilities in poor rundown conditions. You can tell everything is not kept clean in the room, carpets are filthy & smell. When I booked a stay for 2 weeks I was given a flat rate because of the length of stay, but when I questioned the invoice it was a different story, Manager then says oh no we don't offer flat rates, the rooms are a floating daily price rate, our staff aren't authorised to do that, well I don't just imagine having a conversation if it didn't occur. Just a very unprofessional atmosphere, highly...

EDIT: I have contacted them as directed & still have not received a response. I was so excited to visit Port Lincoln for my birthday, but my experience at the Grand Tasman was terrible.

The room was dirty, coffee spills on the nightstands, and general grime on every surface. The only thing that was clean was the sheets.

If rhat wasnt bad enough, I had asked to extend my stay, the front desk receptionist confirmed the extension, and then I returned from a full day out to a room with someone else's belongings. Mine had been removed, taken to the front desk, without notifying me at all.

Luckily, the other people in the room were out at the time, but having full access to another person's belongings is a disgraceful oversight on behalf of the hotel. Having my things taken out of the room felt violating, and had I been a half hour later I would have had nowhere to sleep for the night. On my birthday.

Having worked at a hotel, I am appalled and would highly recommend you either use a different hotel, or reschedule your trip. It's just not worth the hassle of staying here.

I also have reached out to them twice to discuss my experience - I never...

We were passing by Port Lincoln and decided to get some dinner, our main goal was to get some seafood. And let me tell you, we were not dissapointed. We went all in and got the seafood platter for 2. Trust me, if you want to try that, go with a very empty stomach. This might be by far one of the best seafood we’ve had! You could taste how fresh everything was! We devoured everything from stage 1. With stage 2 we were already very full but still tried everything. The only thing we didnt enjoy was the scallops with the cheesy and spicy sauce on top. Scallops were overcooked a bit and the sauce didnt go well with it. But everything else was delicious! PS: they have a salad bar as well and we did the mistake of trying absolutely everything. All very very good. 10/10 would recommend going there if in town and craving seafood!

The 'Grand Tasman' is an old building. As such you are expecting a historic place full of nostalgia, with a few 'hipster quirks'. Sadly, what you find is a poorly maintained 'run down dump'. The bar & reception staff are excellent. They are let down by accommodation rooms with damaged walls, peeling paint, dripping taps, dirty bed sheets and worn carpet. They charge 'top dollar' by the way to stay. When entering my room, I was genuinely concerned for hygiene. The Tasman web site photos are not reflective of the current state of the hotel. These issues are easily fixed with some maintenance & replacement of carpet etc. However, i paid quite a bit to stay and felt very 'ripped off'.

I have been dinning with The Grand Tasman Hotel for over 20 years and they do not disappoint. The chefs are always working at their best to create beautiful meals and meeting demand. The staff are polite and efficient creating an atmosphere to be enjoyed. Great variety on the menu and at the bar. With occasional live music and events to be enjoyed, I look forward to many more pleasant years of enjoyed dining with family and friends. This time I had Crispy Skinned Salmon and it was served in perfect portions that taste terrific.
