The Betel Delicate Thai — Restaurant in Pottsville

Actually called into this restaurant at 6pm after finishing nearby rail trail ride, to ask what time they close for dining in. Was informed '8pm to 8.30pm' which I double checked. I also noticed a handwritten sign out the front said 'No stir fries or noodle dishes', which was half their menu. When I asked why, I was told the chef was away. Stupidly, we decided to still support them. Returned at 7.30pm, showered & dressed.. only to now be told that 'because it's a quiet night we're closing early". Probably the look on my face said it all.. the same girl who told me they would close at their advertised time of 8.30pm was now telling me they've closed at 7.30pm because it's 'quiet'. The equally clueless looks of the other staff members confirmed my suspicions. So if you want to order their East Coast speciality dish, it's called 'Screw the Tourists', with a side order of 'We only stay open when we take lot's of your money'. I could easily travel 1000 kms from here, to the outback of Queensland or NSW, and not get treated with such contempt. And that's where we're heading.. to reconnect with real,...

The food was great. Girls' waiting tables were great. Do not rate the flow of food or organizing of meal delivery. Had a table of 9 of us. Entrees turned up sporadically. Some turned up when we were getting mains. We waited well over an hour for mains. Tables that arrived over half an hour after us ate and left before our mains turned up. Chef made a non GF meal for my GF son. Didn't tell wait staff he mucked up. Just threw it out and cooked a GF meal only after we complained. My son got his meal 15 minutes after we all finished. Girls serving were great, but management would not apologize. You need to look after your girls as they spent the night not only apologizing to us but other tables. We are locals and used to love this restaurant but sorry tonight was awful . They left a fly invested packed bin out the front of our table , we got hammered with flys in our dish . They blamed the salon and said they couldn’t move it , so I moved the bin while I was eating my dish The young girls didn’t really care about it . It was really poor hygiene to have a full bin next to your table . I don’t normally leave bad reviews but this ranks as very appalling service and bad hygiene .
