We were the first to get to the restaurant on a Friday morning (11am) and initially were shocked to see the shop closed. Luckily it opened to satisfy a hungry lot (me and my family) slightly after 11. Am a regular at Indian restaurants and normally would make it a point to try out places when we are in any town/city with Indian Restaurants.
At Baba Curry, we went for the banquet for 2 and added on a few other dishes and opted for the ‘mild’ level in terms of spiciness. Overall, food was good especially the coconut rice that went well with the vindaloo lamb and masala prawns. The safron rice was nice and light while the raita was also nice in terms of consistency and taste. However, the Briyani was slightly below my expectations just because my preference for briyani was for it to be more on a dryer side and with a whole lot more condiments/spices. But overall, it was still acceptable. We ordered a capati but unfortunately, they do not do breads for lunch. Would have loved to try their nans, capatis and others but maybe next time. The Pakora (veggie) was good with the dip but I enjoyed the desserts more where the milk halwa and gulab jamun were such an indulgence! As for drinks, the masala tea was a nice thick tea but I made a mistake of not mentioning I wanted it at ‘full spice’ as am used to the full blown masala tea served like in Delhi. Note to self to order in future everything at a slightly elevated spiciness level (great that Baba Curry is able to adjust it to our level of tolerance). We also had the mango and rose lassi which were both superb. The rose lassi was very refreshing even on a cold overcast winter day. I would definitely order this again together with the coconut rice and masala prawns and will be back for the roti (breads) to...

Read moreWe visited Baba’s Restaurant during a casual trip to Atherton and were pleasantly surprised by this lovely little spot. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm smiles and friendly hospitality. The menu offered plenty of vegetarian options, and we chose the dal makhani and paneer masala paired with rice and naan bread. The spice levels were perfect, and the portions were generous. We also tried the chicken in onion curry. While the curry itself was flavorful and delicious, the chicken felt a bit out of place as it didn’t seem to have absorbed the spices or blend well with the curry. To finish our meal, we ordered chai, which was absolutely delightful. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would recommend this restaurant for its welcoming vibe and...
