Mamma Roma has to be the best Italian restaurant that I have been to. After spending a week at Magnetic Island and only getting to Mamma Roma on Friday for the first time, my partner and I both agreed that is had to be our favourite place we had eaten at on the island and decided it would have been a tragedy not to go back for our final dinner on Sunday night before we left the island. Second time around, the food was just as fantastic as it was the first time. The atmosphere was fantastic with the live music playing that just enhanced the Italian feel. The only thing that I would say that was better than both the music and food was the fantastic customer service experience from all the staff. I was especially impressed by the young man that served us on the Friday night that then remembered us on the Sunday morning and happily said hi and wished us good morning at the Horseshoe Bay markets and then on our return to Mamma Roma on the Sunday night, asked us if we enjoyed the markets. I haven't experienced this kind of customer service in a long time and am still extremely impressed by it. If I could give a higher rating than 5 stars, I would be.
From our 2 visits my partner, she got the Gnocchi Verbanese and Ravioli Mamma Roma and absolutely loved them both. I got the Spaghetti Collesseo and Spaghetti Bolognese which were both amazing! We share Bruschetta and a Zuccona pizza which were Brilliant!
We plan on having another holiday to Magnetic Island and are very much looking forward to going back to Mamma Roma to enjoy more of the excellent food...
Read moreVery frustrating experience. Full disclosure, it was a very busy night for the restaurant and everyone was under the pump so I do empathise with the business and that it was probably a difficult night for the team, however I wanted to leave some feedback for improvement.
My husband and I wanted to try this restaurant as we've walked passed it many times. There were no tables available but they said you can order and eat it at the brewery which we were happy to do.
The prices were very high compared to other restaurants on the island and the portion size of the pasta is small so be prepared for that.
The food came to us quickly which was good but the waiter just plonked it on our table and left without cutlery. The brewery bar was busy with customers, I waited for 10 minutes before giving up and going straight to Mama Romma to get some forks as we had no way to eat our food.
The person at the counter said they don't do cutlery and to ask at the brewery... So I walked back to the brewery and asked where I could get some cutlery. The lady said there were buckets of cutlery not far from where we were sitting but if there isn't any cutlery there then she couldn't help me?...
The buckets had only 3 knives in it.
My husband then went to the empanadas truck and asked if they had any cutlery, thankfully she had some bamboo packet ones for us to use.
Overall, not sure who is in charge of making sure there is enough cutlery but it's a small thing that really frustrated our experience. By the time we got forks our pasta...
Read moreAll the good reviews on here are fake - TLDR: Cheap-tasting ingredients, poor food, overpriced, tourist trap.
I never write reviews, but this place was so disappointing and expensive that I had to.
Came here with my partner seeing the rave reviews from other users. Whilst the service was good and the staff were friendly, the food was unfortunately terrible and extremely overpriced for what it was.
First: the entrees. We had the bread and olives to start: the olives were the same as those available in a large jar for $2.50 at the local IGA. For $10, a piece of bread and store-bought olives is unacceptable.
The Caprese salad was the best part of the meal, yet was simply ‘ok’. The tomato was rather bland, but the mozzarella was fine.
The mains were awful. We had the vegetarian pizza and the seafood marinara.
The Marinara cannot be called ‘authentic Italian’. The seafood (prawns and muscles) just did not taste fresh. The aftertaste was very unpleasant, and the pasta tasted (and looked) store bought. I would not be surprised to find it had been assembled via microwave.
The pizza was totally bland. Nothing about it tasted fresh. It was coated in a layer of grocery store dried oregano. Cheese was rubbery and tasteless. Honestly a joke.
We are no strangers to Italian restaurants. We can tell the difference between quality ingredients and cheap substitutes. That this meal was also quite expensive ($24 for each main) is insult to injury. I hope that this...
