Magnetic Island in North Queensland has many hiking and walking trails. A major portion of the Island is declared National park which preserves it in a pristine condition. The track is accessed via the eastern end of Picnic street. This trail is a short walk which is easily managed even with children in tow. Around 30 minutes of walking will reward you with spectacular views over Rocky Bay, Picnic Bay and across to the mainland city of Townsville. A perfect short walk for those with moderate fitness levels. A fenced lookout at the top provides a safe area for children and adults to enjoy the beautiful views. The trail is clean and will worn with only mild difficulty the whole length. In the winter months it's possible to see whales migrating north across the bay. As with most of North Queensland this walk is best done in the cooler months. The summer heat could easily overcome travellers who aren't used to our summer heat and humidity so take lots of water with you on the walk. Wildlife along the trail can include Koalas so keep an eye out for these shy Australian Marsupials. There are some areas of the walk that may prove difficult for some as you have to scramble across a few rocks. But with care these should not be a problem for most people.

Fairly easy walk up to the lookout, allow around 20- 30 minutes to get there. Highly recommend going just before sunset & bring some snacks for a little picnic. Famtastic 360 degree views. Only about 10 people there, everyone quietly watching the sunset. Don't wait til it's completely dark to go back down as there are some steps and obstacles on the path that are easier when you have a bit of light left. Some street parking at the start of the track.

Simply brilliant spot! i have no idea why google thinks about tickets :) photos attached. great simple trial , well developed and looked after, nice viewing spots on the way. flat sections nicely planned with stone steps up 400/400 , in reality 20-30 minutes up.. and then breathtaking views.... !! Enjoy

I rate this walk as one of the two best walks on the island along with the Forts walk. It's only 600m long, and fairly steep, but the views are incredibly rewarding. You can see north up the Island, across Cleveland Bay towards the Coral Sea, and south across Picnic bay to Townsville. You will also often see Sea Eagles, Kites and Osprey's cruising the coast line when you get to the top. The lookout has secure railings around it so you are safe...
