We recently held our engagement party here, and unfortunately, it was not a great experience. I would not recommend this venue for hosting a function.

We were told the room would be set up prior to our arrival, but when we went in earlier that morning to add our decorations, the space was filthy, and the tables were not arranged as requested. We had to completely rearrange everything ourselves. To make matters worse, staff were overheard saying that we shouldn’t have been allowed in early, even though we had approval from a manager. Given this was our engagement party, with everyone busy getting hair and makeup done, arriving only two hours before the function was simply not possible.

On the night, there was just one bar staff member serving 45 guests. She was absolutely lovely and tried her best, but being new and on her own, she was completely overwhelmed. Wait times for drinks were anywhere from 25–30 minutes, which is unreasonable for a private function.

The food was tasty and served on time, which we appreciated. However, when we asked to pack up the leftover food (after paying $500 for platters), we were met with rudeness. Staff told us we couldn’t take it home, despite us bringing containers. The attitude made the situation unnecessarily unpleasant, and eventually, the staff member simply took over and packed it herself while rushing us to finish because the kitchen “needed the dishes.”

We also paid $200 for the room hire, which, considering the state of the venue and the service issues, was absolutely not worth it.

Overall, the only positive was the quality of the food. Everything else — from cleanliness, communication, and service — left us disappointed. If you are considering booking a function room here, I’d strongly advise...

We have been regular visitors to the Melbourne Hotel for dinner, so as our 31st wedding anniversary neared I was looking forward to a mouthwatering meal again, WOW were we disappointed. Firstly as it was a Wednesday we assumed that we could just walk in, nope. We felt like we were treated like second class citizens, couldn't fit in the main bistro area due to Covid restrictions, then we were hearded out to the verandah (also the smoker's area), only to find nope, the staff member was new on the floor and you aren't allowed to eat out there, so into the TAB we went after complaining very loudly to staff, to finally sit beside the pool table and we were nearly deafened by the loud music, then the pool table and laughing from the intoxicated patrons. I did have to remove my hearing aids to settle the pain in my ears. Then we waited for 45 minutes before we finally received our main meals. My Trawler's Plate for $35 was very disappointing, the calamari and chips were stone cold, and the portion of battered fish was very small. My husband's well deserved full rack of ribs for $38 is usually massive, hot and delicious. I took a photo of the size of them, both racks were the size of my credit card, also his chips were stone cold too. It's like we were totally forgotten. My husband and I will definitely be avoiding the Melbourne Hotel in future. I wondered if someone recently bought the Hotel and downsized everything in the menu. One very upset patron. I hope that it's not like this...

Hello Melbourne Hotel,

Our family and extended family attended your hotel for dinner tonight and where very disappointed not only with our meals but the attitude and demeanor of your staff. When a customer goes up to order a meal they should be greated with a little bit of enthusiasm and less arrogance.

Well the meals let me say this was less than appetizing when you order your steak to your aquired taste it should be to that not a medium rare to a medium well or a medium well to a charcoaled piece of meat. The ribs that we had served to our table where burnt.

When you finish serving meals to a table i would highly recommend that you make sure everyone has their meals. Not only did you forget and yes forget a meal this was the words given to us from the manager on duty also not sure how long you have been serving frozen poached eggs on chicken caeser salads for very disappointing.

Not sure why when on ordering another round of drinks we had to use the already dirty ones ? This may of been to accommodate less washing up not really sure why. We have been going to your hotel for many years now and sad to say will not be returning after tonights episode, as it was not like the place was packed to the...

The venue had a nice ambience and the staff were lovely. Several comments at our table mentioned that the food had a lack of seasoning. The southern fried chicken was a bit bland. The Pad Thai, in my opinion, was very bland. This would be suitable for less adventurous eaters, but my personal preference is plenty of flavour. There was no hint of Asian flavours in this dish. However, the chips were top-notch, and the steak sandwich was very nice. The steak was tender, and fillings were fresh.

Went here for dinner with my family and had a really nice experience. The service was outstanding and the staff were really friendly and were really easy to talk to. The place was clean and tidy, plenty of space between tables. The food was pretty tasty and well cooked. I would recommend going here for a great feed or a few drinks with mates.
