I have travelled a lot in South East Asia and enjoy Malaysian and Indonesian food especially. I am from Perth where we have many Asian restaurants serving authentic dishes. My wife is Filipino. I was in Hervey Bay for a few days with family and we came to Truly Asian. I ordered Roti Canai and Creamy Yellow Curry. My brother, my sister and her husband know this restaurant well and like it. I was very disappointed in the food. The chicken in my curry was boiled, like aussie chinese restaurants cook it. The Roti was soggy and small. The other dishes we shared were salty. The food is not what I expected. I can only say that if you have never been to Asia, then you will probably like this food. It is expensive for what you get. It is Aussie Asian, not Truly Asian. The service was good, staff friendly. I cook rice daily in my house and the rice cooker makes it easy. My rice was overcooked and soggy. If you are Asian or know what good Asian food is, don't expect to find it here. It has good reviews mainly and that is because Like my brother, brother in law and sister. They have never travelled and tasted real Asian cooking. It's made for Aussies. I looked at many reviews to see if I could find any reviews from Asians. Almost non existent. It appears that the demographic of Hervey Bay restaurant goers is people who like Aussie Chinese food found in most cities around Australia. I am not saying it's bad, it's just not authentic. I imagine its very difficult to get Asian vegies in Harvey Bay. I also found the food very expensive. Are vegies expensive in Hervey Bay? $26 to $30 seems expensive for mains and $11 for a small Roti and salty curry sauce is too much. Aldi Roti is better. Sorry, but overall a very...
Read moreI booked this place for my farewell dinner with my friends 5 days ago. I called the restaurant about an hour ago to inform that one of my friends will not be able to come. They said they haven’t made any booking and there’s no available table for us. I was devastated as they confirmed the booking five days ago and now saying no tables. Somehow they managed to give a table outside the restaurant on the deck that was really cold( and we were not prepared) because of the breeze from the beach. When we complained about the booking issue, the lady in charge (probably the manager) was not very happy about our complaint and the communication was not very pleasant and didn’t apologies for the mistake. I wouldn’t plan any parties in this place again because I can’t trust their booking.
We were waiting for food 1.5 hours after ordering and the main lady said they got many orders that’s the reason for the delay. But we noticed that they served food for some people who arrived after us. I don’t know whether they have special prioritisation other than first come first basis. I was so disappointed as one of my friends had to leave without having dinner as they took ages to serve the food. Also, when we requested an extra dish they said the kitchen is closed. Not only the delayed serving but also not enough food for people!
The service of the restaurant was poor( May be because we were given outside table) and the communication of the lady in charge( I guess) was not very nice and not welcoming.
Overall I regret that I organised the farewell dinner...

I was excited for some Asian cuisine and on seeing this restaurant and reviews headed in early on a Thursday.
We were warmly greeted by staff, and without a reservation, managed to get a table for two outside on the deck over looking the water and boats. Amazing.
The staff here are friendly and accommodating so we ordered some wine with our lunch.
We got pork dumplings, Singapore Noodles, Sweet and sour pork and Crispy Skin Chicken to share. Each dish also had two spring rolls on the plate.
December 2023 - 3 Stars The dumplings and sweet and sour pork were great. However, the Singapore Noodles lacked any curry and had loads of sugar, and was cold. Not much protein for the $$#. I am a fan of this dish in Hong Kong and this misses the mark. The crispy skin chicken was oily and was also cold, just warm, like the Noodles so not sure what happened. I also asked for some chilli as the dish lacked spice and was charged a dollar.
This Asian food seems westernised. I hope there will be an authentic Asian section on the menu as this was not. That would ensure the right dish is prepared and cooked correctly.
Inside the restaurant it looked dated. What turned it around was the staff who were all working so hard, smiling and accommodating.
We will come by for another try and...
