Bella Cafe & Pizza Bar — Restaurant in South Australia

Bella Café on Kangaroo Island serves up a delightful spread of comforting Italian-inspired dishes that cater to both traditional and creative taste buds. Here’s my take on the two pizzas and pasta we had.

1. House special This pizza brought a medley of flavors to the table, with its perfectly baked crust serving as a canvas for fresh ingredients. The combination of olives, capsicum, mushrooms, and bacon created a savory harmony, complemented by the melted cheese that added richness to every bite. The inclusion of pineapple provided a tangy sweetness that balanced the overall flavor.

2. Meatlover This option stood out for its simplicity and bold flavors. The crispy bacon was generously portioned, and the feta cheese added a creamy, tangy kick that paired well with the diced tomatoes. The thin crust was slightly crispy on the edges but soft enough to absorb the flavors of the toppings, making it a satisfying choice.

However, for both pizza, the base is a little too thick for our liking.

3. chicken and chorizo carbonara The pasta dish was a highlight, showcasing a luscious cream sauce infused with garlic and herbs. The perfectly cooked spaghetti was tossed with sautéed mushrooms, crispy bacon, and fresh greens, giving it a delightful textural contrast. The microgreens on top added a fresh, earthy finish to this indulgent dish.

The pineapple and chicken pizza had stale chicken. Other pizza(house) and burgers were ok.

When I called the cafe, the cook acted surprised and kept challenging me that his chicken is within the expiry and demanded to bring over the pizza back for replacement. I like that he offered the replacement but the damage is already done and instead of apologising, he kept demanding me to bring back the pizza. I didn’t like the tone of the person!! Poor customer service!

This a follow up on the above. I did take the pizza back today to show him. The guy welcomed me with a rude look and was visibly displeased with the review. I did state him that a bad product and service deserves a bad review. He went onto and commented that it’s my opinion that chicken was stale and also complained that I have eaten half the pizza and looking now asking for a refund. I did explain him, the kids already had binned a few pieces before I decided to bring it back. Now, if I’m taking my personal time and effort to write this review in the middle of holiday, you can imagine the frustration!! This owner is consumed by arrogance and not a single word of apology!! He is only surviving because of the non-repeating customers!!

I doubt the authenticity of 5 star...
