We came here on recommendation of our host (we were visiting from NSW). We do like a good pie and sausage roll, so we ventured out. When we got there, there was a queue of people out the door and down the street, as we were warned there would be, and of course that is always a good sign of great food. When we finally got in, we ordered a couple of sausage rolls (one normal, one cheese and bacon), a pasty and a standard meat pie. Overall we were a bit disappointed. There was nothing outright wrong with the food, but we both felt we have had better elsewhere. We both felt the sausage rolls were very greasy (akin to the layer of grease that gets left behind in your mouth from Brisket meat), but tasted ok and the pastry was nice, crisp and flakey. The pastry was better grease and taste-wise, but we felt lacked a bit of flavour. Same with the pie. Good build (though mine did start falling apart underneath halfway through, not an issue), good taste and not greasy, but just somewhat plain. No doubt this is simply a state-to-state taste difference and I don't want to suggest that regular queues of people lining up here are wrong, because they obviously aren't - it's simply that this bakery unfortunately for some reason did not appeal to our east-coast palettes. We did not try any of the sugar-baked goods, but they certainly did look very attractive.

Port Elliot Bakery, you do live up to your reputation! Yuuummmmo! Back down the Fleurieu Peninsula visiting for a few weeks and this was on the ‘planned stop’ list. So much so that we have now been there at least half a dozen times over the last 2 weeks. Their pies of the month; Chicken and Cranberry, and Hawaiian have been unreal. The other standout pastry for us has been the Mushroom and Cheese Parcel. If you’re a sweet tooth, there are plenty of goodies to choose from. The customer service has been very friendly every time we have visited, even when it was extremely busy, well done to everyone in there putting up with the ‘Christmas holiday busy period’. We’ll be back soon for some more goodies!

Found it to be overrated, ordered the potato pie, sausage roll and vanilla slice totalling $18.15. No prices visible within the food warmers or menu on the wall. The sausage roll was fine with sausage mice wrapped in flakey pastry, filling was a tad salty for my personal taste but not bad. Vanilla slice was the highlight of this purchase, with great custard and pastry utilised. The icing was too sweet and ganache-like for me, so i got rid of it. Tasted fine without it. Lowlight was the potato pie, the mince filling had an odd taste that my travel companion and I agreed was akin to off meat. Not sure what flavouring was put in there for this odd taste to be present (the bacon bits maybe?) I finished the pie anyhow whilst my friend threw hers out. A disappointing purchase, this one, should have stuck to the traditional beef pie. The creamy chicken pie was rated highly by my friend. Not in a hurry to return any time soon.

A Port Elliot institution ……… This place rocks especially during summer where you can expect to queue down the street …… but the short wait is worth it. On this they employ plenty of staff to pump through the people quickly so don’t be phased by the queue. It has a few outside tables to sit at but not a lot so consider taking your stuff to somewhere like Freeman Lookout a nice green grassed park with toilets at the end of the Strand for some peace and quiet. I recommend the pasties they are magnificent and for sweet tooth’s maybe donut of the month ….. but my fave is the local South Australian delicacy the Kitchener Bun a once a year treat for me. Don’t miss this bakery is my final word.

Port Elliot Bakery is a well established and ran restaurant that lives up to it’s name! Me and a close friend visited from Adelaide to see experience the amazing quality food and we were not let down at all! The iced latte was refreshing and perfectly diluted with oat milk, the steak and mushroom pie was flakey, balanced and heavenly, and their donut of the month (mango and passionfruit) had a beautiful presentation and an even better flavour. Great value for money with the quality they provide here. Recommend purchasing some food and visiting the local cliff side ocean lookouts. Absolutely amazing way to spend the day!

Wow. The perpetual queue outside this place says it all. So many make claims to having "the best pies in the world" but PEB may go closer than most to backing it up. We visited Port Elliot on a stunning autumn day last Monday which also happened to be my birthday so we were looking for a nice lunch option after a very enjoyable swim at Horseshoe Bay. Most of the local pub and brasserie options were lovely but also very $$$. My girlfriend saw the queue outside the bakery and decided this place is the bomb. She was right and we sampled a good selection. Best were the Kelly Pie and Donut of the Week.
