A Sandwich Sent from the Heavens (or at least a bloody good kitchen)
Alright, let's be fair dinkum. When I first laid eyes on The Hut's menu, I had a bit of a moment. The prices gave me more shock than a surprise magpie swooping in spring. But, with a stomach grumbling louder than a V8 ute, I decided to take the plunge and ordered the Steak Sandwich with the Lot.
At $19.50, I was praying to every ancestor I have that this wasn't going to be a culinary crime scene. Let me tell you, mates, my ancestors delivered.
This wasn't just a sandwich; it was a masterpiece between two slices of bread. The steak was so tender you could've cut it with a dirty look, grilled to absolute perfection. It was smothered in a rich, flavour that hugged the meat like a long-lost friend. The "lot" was the real hero: a golden, yolked egg that oozed beautifully, crispy, and fresh tomato that provided the perfect crisp contrast. All of this was cradled in the most perfectly toasted golden slices of bread, that held its ground like a true champion, not going soggy for a second.
The presentation was so good I almost felt bad taking a bite. Almost. The taste? I would have happily coughed up double the dough for that flavour explosion. It was worth every single cent.
A massive shoutout to the delivery bloke, too. He was an absolute legend! Friendly, on time, and handed over the bag like he was passing on the Olympic torch. Top stuff.
If you're eyeing off the menu and having a bit of a gawk at the prices, just do it. You won't be disappointed. This steak sanger is an absolute triumph. Fair play, Hut Takeaway. You've won a...
Read moreI rang to place an order and was told I either have to drive in an order at the counter or download their app. I explained I couldn’t drive and as I had a sight problem I could not download the app. Plus as a visitor to town I didn’t want to for one purchase. It was then suggested I use Menulog. Which I don’t have , so I asked why they won’t take a phone order. I was informed it was due to people booking food and not turning up. I said problem solved here is my credit card for the delivery and order. The young lady then replied to go to menu log, clearly this business has no compassion for those with a sight disability. She was also rude and dismissive. In todays world of business needing more customers it’s nice to see that this business clearly doesn’t need any more. I also see by the reviews I am not the only customer they’ve lost and I also wonder how many more this business has lost but customers have not written a negative review. I asked the hotel we in and the manager said it’s a common issue with them. Not a good look for your tourists Port Augusta. Seriously how hard is it to take a phone order you can clearly take one if a customer turns up in person. To be honest she could have taken it in the time she was explaining why they wouldn’t take it- not couldn’t but wouldn’t! Review written using...
Read moreAs a truck driver, I’ve stopped there before as I can park a road train the other side of the road and run in, this time I had the phone number ready to go and called the shop ( hands free) while on my way to Port Augusta on the 30/7/23 to have it ready to go as I was pretty tight for time. I was informed by the young male taking the call “we don’t take phone orders, you have to use the app”. I informed the young man that I was approaching Port Augusta and it wasn’t practical to download the app while driving just to order now. I asked if he could take my order now as nearly there, “ sorry I don’t make the rules” I hung up. I spent more time on the phone listening to why my order can’t be taken than it would have taken to say “ I’ll take it this time but we’re telling all customers to use the app please “ That maybe would have been a more customer focused approach than to lose a customer. I won’t ever stop there again, plus I tell relatives in Port Augusta, other truck drivers and so on. Pretty ordinary...
