BEST BURGERS IN TOWN, WORST WAIT TIME.
Groove n Grill 1hr wait for a burger and chips
Today my partner and I decided we’d check out Groove n Grill (formally known as the Blue Topaz).
We have been Sunday lunch regulars for a few months now, nearly never missed a weekend. We’ve always been pleased by the constantly outstanding meals, every time each meal has always met the same delicious standards. Due to their relocation we thought, why miss our regular lunch dates when it’s even closer being in town?
So we arrived and waited in line. We briefly overhead a staff member tell another customer the wait time for dine in was approximately 45mins. Upon placing our order; a burger combo (burger with a side of chips and drink) with a small chips, a different staff member gave us a 20-30min waiting time for takeaway(with our drink). The new redesigned menu is very difficult to quickly read. For which we patiently waited outside until our order was ready. Once the 30min mark was reached my partner entered the diner to check the progress of our order, to which he was met with another 5-10min and we’ll let you know when it’s ready from our original server(they were aware we were sitting outside). So another 15mins passed by while we still waited patiently. 54minutes after placing our order! I entered the diner obviously frustrated with the outrageous wait time and extreme lack of communication between staff and kitchen. Where I was served by a lovely young waiter(he has always been very pleasant and always happy to help), to whom which I explained my situation. 3 minutes later I was greeted with my order, with no apologies or thanks for my patience. After that we left, only to discover our burger combo had NO CHIPS! By this point(as anyone would be) I had been tipped past the point of annoyance, i once again entered the diner, was served by yet another staff member, to whom I explained my situation AGAIN, she then went back to the kitchen returning with my correct meal. With no apologies or offers of compensation for my time and patience wasted.
Not to mention that there are no open signs or displayed opening hours(one must be a facebooker to know when they can and can’t order their food)
I am extremely disappointed by the lack of professional conduct being displayed in the diners new location.
THE BLUE TOPAZ
The day prior we visited the Blue Topaz out at Severnlea(its original location) as we’d heard it was still operating and we were curious.
Even tho this diner was advertised with a limited menu, I was still shocked by what was available when we walked thru the door. There was only one staff member running the entire store, including cooking. Whom, was lacking in customer service, whilst she definitely wasn’t rude, in a small country town one expects a very warm welcome while conversing with staff members and ordering. We were the only customers in the store and the tables were dirty and sticky.
I’m honestly shocked by how much the standards have dropped in both of these venues after their expansion/relocation. It really is a shame as there is nowhere else locally where you can source the same...
Read moreA retro style Cafe with old style booths and rock and roll memorabilia. They appear to do a roaring trade in hamburgers, which appeared to be tasty. We only wanted coffee and toasted banana bread. We ordered and sat down at our table. A couple coming in after us also ordered banana bread. They sat down. We received our drinks. They were told by a waitress that the couple before them had ordered the last of the banana bread. They were asked what they'd like instead and very quickly received their drink order with raisin toast. Meanwhile, we'd waited 25mins, drunk our luke warm drinks, and still no banana bread. I asked a waitress where it was and was told, "It will be here shortly as the toaster is free now." We then received our order for two, which consisted of two small chunks of burnt banana bread on one plate. All I can think is the other couple were locals and therefore received preferential treatment.
So if you eat there, stick to hamburgers and try to look...
Read moreI freaking love this place. Randomly came across it while visiting.
From the get go, staff were courteous, knowledgable and friendly when taking our orders and letting us choose a table.
Whilst waiting for out food, they brought over complementary popcorn, which I thought was fun and innovative, matching with the overall theme.
Our orders arrived very quickly, within quick succession, so we could all eat at the same time.
The burgers themselves were super tasty, like homemade. I loved how they trending with a smashed burger patty - chefs kiss right there.
The atmosphere - OMG it is soooo cool and aesthetically pleasing. Such an awesome time warp, and immersive so that you can check out all the musical artists to talk about with your friends and family.
Highly recommend this place for all the things. Recommend booking a table, if you want a...
