Cafe Ruffino — Restaurant in Strathalbyn

Outside chairs have not been cleaned in a long long time. We decided to eat inside the cafe at 8.45pm and a similar(not as bad though) cleaning pattern could be noticed. As we started our meals two fly's bombarded our table and we saw a roach head towards my wife's hand bag and this was disturbing.

The meals were all solid and of good size. The chicken risotto was good but could have had more chicken. The chicken snitzel was also good. The Louisiana Pasta was very nice.

The cafe is dated and obviously staff are not instructed to clean and wipe down tables/floors etc. In fact I think they are light on staff which may be why some of the issues above exist.

The staff were friendly and as mentioned the food was good without being outstanding.

If there was 2 1/2 stars this would have been my rating and 3 1/2 to 4 if someone got a bottle of bleach...

I've been coming here since I moved up to Nairne 5 & half years ago. It was just a trip to Strath to look at a house that was for sale & we called in here to get something to eat & drink. I tried a piece of their caramel banana cream topped slice & they use real cream on it, not fake cream! It was the most amazing piece of slice I've ever tasted. So sometimes we come for a drive just to call in here to get a peice! However, we have had other meals here & they were excellent. We actually came to have pizza here last night being the 8th of December 2018, which was also excellent. The service here is also top quality! Just moved to Strathalbyn so we thought we’d try out the pizzas here so seen this place read the reviews and seemed ok . Ordered 2 takeaway pizzas said they’d be 20 minutes so turned 20 mins later picked them up thought the boxes weren’t very hot got them home and only Luke warm, so heated them in the oven for 10 mins. To say they were very ordinary would be an understatement pretty tasteless and if it had Bocconcini on it like it was supposed to it must’ve been invisible we couldn’t see it. The other half & half pizza wasn’t much better not a good start to our Strath pizza experience maybe they had an off day but they’ll need to improve for us to go back. Hopefully there are better...
