The Wistow On High — Restaurant in Strathalbyn

A friend and I looked forward to trying this newly opened Cafe in Strathalbyn but left feeling disappointed and not wanting to return. No warm welcome ,just immediately pushed to place an order. I ordered a coffee and I specifically asked for it to be served in one of their glasses but that was ignored and it was served in one of their pottery cups. We ordered a slice of cheesecake to share but she refused to cut it in half and then served it on a single plate with no spoons or serviettes. I had to get them myself. To add insult to injury my coffee was tepid. When I politely brought it to her attention she got very defensive and told me I should have ordered it "extra hot" . I told her I don't like my coffee "extra hot" I just wanted the normal barista temperature like we make at home on our machine (65°). She just kept on arguing the point until I gave up. Best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. The eggs Benedict was clearly covered in house made hollandaise and I’ve never had breakfast where the spinach is sautéed perfectly In some kind of delicious butter. The granola bowl was fresh, and tasty with a very generous serve or delicious crunchy granola. I’ve had coffee here 2 days In a row. The coffee temperature is perfect barista coffee and I love that they’ve used a local pottery house (bramble pottery) to create their mugs and cups. I thoroughly enjoyed my latte In a soft pottery cup opposed to a run of the mills glass. If you want a predictable run of the mill cafe, serving extra hot coffee and everything for nothing, then this isn’t the place. Wistow on high has set the bar for beautiful brunch, extraordinary coffee and I loved being served by locals with a massive smile on their face. You can tell all the staff love working there. A pleasant and welcome addition to the Strathalbyn cafe scene. I very much enjoyed my first visit to this cafe/drive through that opened about 4 weeks ago on High Street with seating indoors and out. They offer a good selection of hot and cold foods - including delicious cakes - and great coffee with a biscuit on the side.
