Where do I start ?? Firstly the 4 owners work there. The 2 male chefs work the kitchen and the ladies work the floor perfectly. I have travelled past this restaurant on a regular basis whilst working, but have never had the opportunity to eat there. It's always a hive of activity as I drive past, wishing I was sitting at one of their tables. Last Thursday night, I had the chance to check it out, my husband and I were staying overnight in Mooloolaba. It was very busy and we hadn't booked, but thankfully, they found us a table. What an absolutely, delightful experience. Before we had even walked through the door, the aroma of freshly cooked food was filling the outside air. We were greeted by friendly staff, which is always a bonus and our drinks order was promptly served by a smiling waitress. Now the real delight, the FOOOOD, "It was delicious". My husband had a wood fired pizza, which he said was the best he'd had in a long time. The base was perfectly seasoned and cooked and the topping was plentiful and flavoursome. My gnocchi was the best gnocchi outside of Italy, the flavour and texture of this gnocchi was just outstanding. It was served in a creamy Gorgonzola sauce with just enough garlic to pop through to the taste buds. It was absolutely divine, I didn't want the dish to end. My husband had their chocolate gelato to finish, but I was too full after having garlic bread to start. My red wine of choice was Montpulciano ,which was as good as the food, it was served with. The service was 5☆ -The food was 5☆, what more could you ask for. I cannot wait to go back to Il Mattarello, next time I'm in Mooloolaba. Hands down, the best Italian restaurant in town. I highly recommend you treat...
Read moreOur party of 7 had a very early dinner on Good Friday but the crowds soon came in to lift the vibe. The venue is fairly loud but not too much to handle. There were lots of attentive staff and the waiter taking our orders was particularly good. Chianti was lovely as were the dishes where the pasta was evidently fresh rather than dried. We all enjoyed our meals. There was one standout disappointment for me, which was the lack of fresh basil (my favourite herb). One tiny leaf on caprese and a sprinkle of dried basil doesn't cut it. Likewise the bruschette also only had dried basil. It looks cheap and tastes nasty on cold dishes like these. A couple of other things that would really elevate the quality are wait staff grinding black pepper to order, rather than nasty Saxa grinders on the table, and wait staff grating parmeggiano to order, rather than a little pot delivered, which gave me the dried nasty parmesan vibes but it tasted better than that fortunately.
With so many staff available and attentive, having individually served pepper and parmeggiano as in the best Italian restaurants in Australia, and fresh basil (it's for sale year round in supermarkets!) would elevate this venue to...
Read moreAwful memory in sunny coast...Their service and hygiene apparently needs to improve. Went there alone at opening time, so there were plenty of empty seats but I was told to dine in the premise up to 1 hour as a one person by a grumpy staff. Wasn't very pleasant start but okay fair enough. It's weekend so I understood the heads-up.
I ordered Gnocchi and drink, and enjoyed it until I found hairs twice in Gnocchi. First one I took picture, and I just continued to eat other part as I'm not that fussy unless the hair is from 'down under' or something. But when I found second one, I lost my appetite, called the staff and told I'd like to pay for my drink and leave. She had glance at the 2 hairs and said it's from mushroom...speechless.
I asked her to check with kitchen staff. I didn't want to stay there any longer when she asked me if I'd wait for new one. She finally said sorry first time when I checkout.
The service attitude was not professional, and hygiene were dissapointing. I wish both were from the mushroom. Will never return anyway
