Travelled for 2 hours to meet family at spoons for a 10am Sunday breakfast. We had eaten here once before and had a great experience. Not sure if there has been a change in ownership but today was a complete disaster. On arriving they were unable to find our booking. We were sat outside in the heat when we had specifically requested indoors when we booked last week as we had elderly family and 4 young children. Ordered 3 coffees. 2 arrived within 10 mins. After 30 mins we asked where the 3rd coffee was and ordered a second coffee for my partner. The waitress returned and apologised the coffee was missed on the order. We eventually got the 3rd coffee but the additional ordered coffee was no where to be seen. 40 mins in the kids are crawling the walls starving! The waitress returns again to apologiese they have ran out of pancakes and ask if would we like something else. Trying to explain this to an autistic 12yo was impossible. We now have a hungry crying child! Then my partners oats are finally delivered. Great, but no spoon to eat them with. So back to the counter to ask for spoon. Then the kids meal arrives. 2 tiny sausage rolls and a piece of hedgehog gone in one bite for $10!!!!! Still waiting on the 2 Ruben sandwiches as these had still not arrived. Back to the counter AGAIN! Still waiting for the last of our food (everyone else had finished at this point) we questioned where the additional coffee was. The waitress returned and apologies it had been ‘missed’. 4 hungry kids, 1 still crying we eventually get a our 2 sloppy Ruben sandwiches. Such a disappointment that what was a $140 breakfast took over an hour to get. Ended up taking the kids up to Maccas for a feed. We were also charged $9.50 not the $9 for kids milkshakes. Absolutely ripoff for a small glass of milk with chocolate topping, no ice cream. Such a pretty restaurant in a gorgeous location but poorly ran, over priced & average food. Won’t be...
Read moreWhile the atmosphere of Spoons was lovely, the service and certain aspects of the food left little to be impressed about.
Once the food finally came out, an hour after sitting down and ordering, it was found that the crispy salmon was so incredibly oily that my assumption was it was deep-fried, making an already fatty fish even more so, then leading the greens underneath to also be smothered in oil.
Furthermore, the "poached egg" was more like a hard-boiled egg that was cooked in pure distilled vinegar.
I, as a chef, understand that incidents happen and that service can be impeded by factors outside of their control, however, seeing waitstaff standing around doing nothing when simply walking over and explaining the reason behind the wait would go a long way to patrons patience.
Finally, to be told, after we approached the waitstaff , that the reason behind the lengthy wait was due to an overwhelming number of patrons, but seeing that the restaurant was only at 25% capacity felt like a bit of a cop out for an excuse.
Locals are stating that having Spoons reopened is amazing and I agree that it is fantastic to see local businesses rebuilding after the last 3-5 years of hospitality imploding, however, if you are not able to reopen and provide ample service to a place that seats x amount of patrons on a quiet day, I wish the business well when it comes to the busy season this...
Read moreBooked a table for 8, for 12pm staff lunch today. Chose this venue based on online menu, which is clearly outdated. Please update your online menu. Mostly breakfast options & 2 lunch options.
On arrival, only 4 menu's at the table. Extra menus came eventually. Order taken incorrectly, to which the gnocci plate that we didn't order was brought back to our table 3 times, just to make sure we had our order correct.
Meals served quite scattered in time frame. Had to ask for the second batch. By the time we received it, my colleagues had finished their plates & watched everyone else eat.
Turkish bread ordered with antipasto platter to fill the gap. No Turkish bread came with the platter. Only 4 crackers. And when I asked waitress for the bread, we were told it would take some time to serve. To which we declined.
I'm not sure if the language barrier was an issue with understanding or communication. But for a staff lunch, I was really disappointed, as...
