Oh my! Well this was a joy to revisit! Arrived super early for the start of Dinner and was greeted by the lovely Miss Aey (pronounced ‘Air’, how pretty). We literally had the pick of our seating, which was just as well because within an hour it was already filling up. Eat Thai has that laid back, good vibe feeling that makes being here such a pleasure. The Old world charm of this building, which they have used to their advantage, is as inviting to look at as it is to enter. The decor inside is rich and earthy with seating that is well spaced and doesn’t make you feel you’re on top of the next table, something that I try to avoid. Our waitress arrived with a beaming smile to take our order which just automatically puts you in a great mood. Drinks arrived quickly and our orders were taken with no fuss. Our order was fairly quick, something that was expected as we were some of the first customers and well…..The chef didn’t disappoint. We started with juicy, fragrant fish cakes that just burst in your mouth. A big bowl of Fried rice with herbs, which I like to order from restaurants (if they have) just to compare. Eat Thai….I think you now make my favourite Fried Rice! Stir Fry prawns with snowpeas that smelt divine and tasted so fresh, Satay chicken skewers that come with ‘the best’ sauce and the Waygu Beef salad- melt in your mouth magic! We also ordered takeaways for a family member, which the waitress was more than happy to do. Mixed entree, Steamed dumplings and the Sticky Black Rice and Mango. This arrived all packed and ready to go when we left but unfortunately I haven’t taken photos of everything we had or even this take-home order which was eaten that very night… needless to say…there wasn’t much left over. I really enjoy coming here… I have always had fantastic, polite service with amazing Food that never disappoints. Something that can be rare to find. Even though I’m not here that often, I ‘always’ make it a point to come back to Eat Thai. Here is a little footnote… I made a quick trip to the bathroom and thought it was worth commenting on. This is not something I usually do, but because it made an impression on me I thought I would include it in this review. What a cute room. It has rough looking wood paneling, a giant Wok bowl for a basin and subtle accessories on the bench and best of all…. it was clean and smelled like a bouquet of...
Read moreMy recent experience was, unfortunately, a major letdown. I had high hopes for a delicious and authentic Thai meal, but both the food and the service were significantly below par.
Let's start with the food. I ordered the which , was nothing like I expected. It was tough, dry, overcooked. The sauce was bland, overly sweet, overly salty, lacking in flavor. The vegetables were soggy, undercooked, clearly frozen.Frankly, it tasted like a poorly executed imitation of Thai cuisine, lacking the fresh herbs and vibrant flavors that are so characteristic of the cuisine. My dining companion ordered the pad thai and their experience was equally disappointing.
Beyond the food, the service was equally problematic. We were seated promptly, but after that, it felt like we were invisible. Our server was inattentive, rushed, dismissive, seemed disinterested. We had to flag them down repeatedly to order drinks, ask for water refills, and eventually, get the bill. When we politely mentioned our dissatisfaction with the , the server was unapologetic, defensive, dismissive, offered no solution. There was no offer to replace the dish or to even acknowledge our concern.
Overall, Restaurant-failed to deliver on both the culinary and service fronts. The food was poorly prepared and lacked authentic Thai flavors, and the service was inattentive and unhelpful. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a genuine and enjoyable Thai dining experience. There are many other Thai restaurants in the eastern suburbs that offer far better quality and service for the price. I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback constructively and makes significant improvements to both the kitchen and the front-of-house operations. Until then, I will not be returning and advise so to other...
Read moreVisiting from Melbourne, two adults and a young toddler (19 months), walk in off the street on a Friday night. We had our bulky pram with us, the staff were able to accommodate and make a space for us in the back section inside. High chair available and staff were very attentive to our daughter! We rate places on the kids menu as we find it disappointing that most places only offer options that come with chips. Very pleased with the range of healthy options on the kids menu, including satay chicken skewers with rice, steamed broccoli, carrots and green beans (which we ordered) in addition to pad Thai, salmon and steamed veggies and a few other things. Main menu had a good range of classic and cool signature dishes, good wine list and cocktails that we unfortunately didn't get to try - would have loved to order the watermelon Tommy's margarita or spicy margarita! Ordered duck with tamarind and pineapple and crispy spicy pork, both very tasty and good portion sizes. Also satay skewers and fish cakes as entree - both some of the best we've ever had. Great vibe with cool music and warm interior design, overall seems like a really trendy but family friendly place, highly recommend to anyone...
